14-President’s Message A Message from the President My personal congratulations to the class of 1979. It is an excellent class for which all of us at Vincennes University are thankful. One of the sad things about a two year college is that about the time we get acquainted with a group of fine students, they are ready to leave us. Yet, the graduates are to be congratulated for achieving another step in their personal development. Americans have always believed in education as the doorway to the future. For most of us no other factor is so decisive to our personal accomplishment. In this generation in which the routine types of jobs are steadily disappearing from the world of work, when even occupational skills are based upon knowledge, those who continue their efforts to learn gain an important advantage. Perhaps the most important contribution of post-high school edu- cation is to give a foundation for future personal growth for educa- tion today has become a lifetime necessity. Those who do not gain that foundation early in life must struggle to recover in their later years or fall steadily behind their colleagues in occupational accom- plishments. Education today is the reservoir out of which leadership makes its contribution. It is the basis for many of life's satisfactions. Therefore, my hope and prayer is that the learning graduates have gained at Vincennes University will serve them well in the years ahead. | hope, too, that every graduate will remember a favorite state- ment of mine they probably have heard several times: that everyone of us have the obligation to develop our talents to the fullest and put those talents in the service of God and man. My sincere best wishes, Issac K. Beckes 4 i ; 5 saa a aS eee DH NRINL SieNEME REET Geach doen i Sk as Rae eR ete
