The band has performed in every state, excluding Alaska, and has given two command performances for Queen Elizabeth II of England. Along with a recently-achieved number-one rating for steel bands at the International Festival in Trinidad, the band brought its own style of calypso, classical, jazz, and pop-music. 78 — Tripoli Steel Band Lettermen In 1961, three unknown singers produced a hit record, ‘“That’s My Desire,” and are now known as The Lettermen. Featured performers for the Dads’ Weekend Pop Concert, these brothers charmed a 750-member audience at the Physical Education-Recreation Center. Danny Pole, Gary Poke, and Tony Brutals “hammed it up” for a full two hours followed by a 30-minute encore which clearly proved to be the highlight of an exciting weekend. Lettermen — 79 Fall Variety Show as ss Always a favorite attraction of Dads’ Weekend is the All-Campus Variety Show. This year’s presen- tation included six groups in trophy competition and 16 specialty acts. Top honors went to Sigma Phi Epsilon’s ‘Hooray for Hollywood” followed by Morris Residence Hall and Harrison Hall, respec- tively. All Harrison Hall cast members join in the grand finale to their skit, ‘The Carol Burnett Show”. Jane Sauers and Mary Ann Roedel smile for the photographer and sideline fans. 86 — Homecoming Top float honors in the annual Homecoming Parade went to Lambda Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Pi, Lambda Chi Alpha, and U.C.C.F. ee Homecoming — 87 a 88 — Homecoming NO stats 4 ¥ F ‘whet ¥ | en Another reigning lovely in the parade was Miss Vincennes University, Susan Hudson. | While not quite so lovely, the clowns entertainingly brought up ‘‘the end” of the parade. 90 — Funny Girl “Funny Girl” The first V.U. fall production, “Funny Girl’, presented a potpourri of drama, excitement, and humor. Directed by James Spurrier, the play starred Sandy Helmic, Charlie Fraker, Steve Dollahan and Grant Cham- bers. Depicting a young woman’s bid for stardom, the performance was both enlightening and entertaining. Sandy and Steve, (Fanny Brice and Eddie Ryan), choreograph one of their musical numbers in rehearsal. Over 75 costumes were needed to array the 32 characters, and the more exotic costumes were worn by the showgirls. These talented actresses portrayed the dancers that typified performances put on by the Ziegfield Follies. Sandy Helmic and cast members perform EY in one of the numbers that brings Fanny closer to stardom. Carole Dowden performs a jazz routine in one of the many musical numbers present- ed during the evening. 92 — Funny Girl “World’s Fastest Hypnotist’, Gil Eagles “World’s fastest hypnotist’, Gil Eagles, performed as a part of the University’s Lectures and Convocation Series. Colorful costumes were the highlight of Sigma Nu’s “Toyland”. Both teams outdistanced their respective fields to bring home victories during the 14th annual Littlest 500 Weekend. In the women’s Trike race, Clark and Morris Halls’ cyclists were ‘‘neck and neck’”’ throughout the entire race, but Clark Hall’s coed team pulled ahead to clinch the win. 108 — Littlest 500 Connie Brown, from the defending champions of Morris Hall, won the trophy for the fastest lap time of 1:47. That winning lap out the Morris Hall team out in front, but Clark Hall soon caught up with them. Littlest 500 — 109 The winning Clark Hall team con- sisted of seniors Bev Buysse, Karen Fagen, Joyce Ortiz, and Cyndie Win- eland, with freshman Janice McCracken. Winning its third consecutive Bicycle Race, Clark Hall’s men team led the majority of this year’s race by turning in a winning time of 52 minutes and 58 sec- onds. The race itself had six lead changes in a battle between Clark and Harrison Hall. Littlest 500 — 111 The battle between Clark and Har- rison Hall was not the only confron- tation of the day. There was no clear cut leader for third and fourth place as Sigma Phi Epsilon and Morris Hall stayed within 30 seconds of each other the entire race. Fraternity member Paul Axton turned in the fastest lap of the day — 1:04 — and gave Sigma Phi Epsilon the edge to secure third place. 112 — Littlest 500 113 Littlest 500 Terry Larry McGill, but the day clearly belonged to an exhausted but happy Clark Hall.
