Dean Hill is chairman of the Academic Af- fairs Committee and chairman of the Humanities Division of the University. He is also responsible for the coordi- nation of student class schedules and the operation of the final examination schedules. DEAN PRESTON BAILEY ALBRIGHT, Dean of Men, Guidance and Placement Director and Professor of Eng- lish. Responsible for the discipline of male students and in charge of Men's Residence Halls. Supervises all test- ing programs, counseling and orientation programs. Dean Albright supervises allocation of scholarship, loan and worlc study funds and is faculty sponsor for the Student Senate. He is also responsible for the administration of automobile registration and traffic. DEAN CORNELIA CARTER, Dean of Women and Director of Student Activities. Dean Carter is an Associate Pro- fessor of Education and English and is faculty advisor to both the Student Senate and Alpha Theta Chi, women's social sorority. She supervises the operation of the stu- dent health office and clears all campus activities. She is responsible for campus art exhibits and processes at- tendance records. The weekly and daily activities bulle- tins are distributed from Dean Carter's office and she is also the unofficial University interior decorator and selects the appointments and furnishings for dorms and lounges. Wm 455-57 DEAN STEPHEN A. VIOLANTE, Dean of Admissions and Assistant to the President of the University. He is an Associate Professor of Business, advisor to veterans and the President's representative to the Student Union.

HON. CURTIS G. SHAKE, PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY Curtis G. Shake, Vincennes attorney and president of the Vincennes University Board of Trustees, was horn July 14, 1887 in Knox County. He was a student at Vincennes University from 1903 to 1906 and in 1910 received the L.L.B. from indiana Uni- versity. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1909 and has sineerpraetieed law in Vincennes. He is senior member ofthe law firm of Shake and Shake the other member being his son, Gilbert. ln iana Governor Matthew lf. Welsh was a law partner of Nlr. Shake until the firm was dissolved on the election of Mr. Welsh governor. Mr. Shake immediately became active in community and governmental activities after being admitted to the bar. He served as deputy prosecuting attorney of Knox County from 1911 to 1913 and city attorney of Vincennes from 1912 to 1915. He was United States Commissioner from 1917 to 1925 and county attorney from 1923 to 1926. ln 1927 he served as senator in the State Legislature. 1Vlr. Shake was appointed to the indiana State Supreme Court in 1938, and served until he retired from the bench in 1945. 1n 1942 he was elected permanent Chairman of the Democratic- State Convention. Mr. Shake was selected to serve in 194-7 as presiding judge ofthe 1.G.l'1arben war crimes trials at Nuremberg, Germany fol- lowing World War 11. He has also served as rcferree or the National Railroad Adjustment Board in numerous labor disputes. He xt as president of the Vincennes Chamber of Commerce in 1949 and Chairman of the Indiana Sesquieentennial Commission in 1950. 1 c received the Vincennes University Alumni Association's first annual Citation for civic leadership and serv iec in 1952. ln 1959 he was selected to represent the State of Indiana on a Lincoln Year tour of Japan and the Far Fiast. Nlr. Shake is a member of the American and Indiana Bar Associations, the American ,ludieature Soeiety,the lndiana Historical Society, the Society ol indiana Pioneers, Sigma Pi, Kappa Sigma, Phi Delta Phi, Delta Sigma Phi and the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Shake was elected to the Board of Trustees of Vincennes University on March 31, 1923, during the period when the in- stilution's administration was undergoing important changes. He has been a member of the board since that time,serving as secretary, vice- president and president, taking that position on October 9, 194-5. It was during 1Vlr. Shake's tenure as president that the Board of Trustees undertook the long-planned move from the old downtown campus to its present site on t e old Harrison Park grounds which it occupied in 1953. Mr. Shake has lor many years had an avid interest in the historioai background ol Vincennes and the surrounding community. Ile has written numerous pamphlets on the history of Vincennes and has aiso been a contributor to 1ega1 periodicals.
