A New The dangling metallic threads of a black and silver balloon canopy glittered in the dimmed lighting of the Sequoia Athletic Club. Black and white tuxedos embrac- ing petite figures of full length satin and sparkling rhines- tones moved rhythmically to a background of soothing lyrics. An air of romance and sophistication set the mood for 1987's Coronation Dance. A New Tradition was chosen as the theme, and no other choice would have suited the occasion as well. The switch to girl-ask-boy and an earlier date proved to be successful changes as the dance had the largest atten- rendition dance in V.P.H.S. history. The spacious and elegant facili- ties added yet another new flavor. Free bowling was offered the guests as an extra attraction, making a de- lightful break for a few daring couples. Though other components made the tradition new, the crowning of the king and queen remained an anticipated highlight. As the clock struck eleven, all music ceased. Senior class advisor Dominick Corradino introduced the patient-but-nervous court, and the curious audience wit- nessed the crowning of 1987 Coronation King and Queen, John Watrous and Kammi Genova. l Q I T 28 Student Life .slr .-H tx.-1-yr
