We chose the following officers for the year: President: Dale Dustin Vice-President: Joanne Pitcher Secretary: Ethel Clark Treasurer: Beverly Neal Historian: Sydney Strong On September 24, l954, we enjoyed the Freshman Reception. We had fun even though we were the freshmen. September 30, l954, was the day of the fair. Dale Dustin and Joanne Pitcher represented our class in one of the plays, "HilIbilly High Jinks". We entered a float in the parade. lt was the "Jimmy Fund" for which we collected S27.00. We were well represented on the cheerleading squads this year: varsity, Joanne Pitcher, iunior varsity: Elizabeth Hartwell, Ruth Renz, and Ethel Clark. O1 the I- v. basketball squad are: Sydney Strong, Dale Dustin and Tom Marx. The student council members are Dale Dustin and Patricia Batchelder. We gave the St. Patrick's Day Party on March I7. Our class officers are: President, Francis Stevens, vice-president, Lorraine Snow, secretary, Anne Burroughs, and treasurer, Bernadette Burke. In the fair parade, we entered a covered wagon as our float. The class was very proud when it won second prize. Ellen Chase, Madelene Eckon, Carlene Bean, Anne Burroughs, Raymond Spencer, and William Harrington acted in the plays on fair night. Our class dues were set at 51.75. We also voted to sell milk until November. Many of our class members represented us on the football and basketball teams and on the cheerlead- ing squad. W Agruculture Safety The Junuors lst pruze wunner g...g.1t,,y- gf The Freshmen s Jummy Fund Covered Wagon the Sophomores 2nd pruze wunner .231 The Vulos Hugh School Band f I X Alsfeod Outing Club 1 I ll Classes of 40 and 45 8th Grade 'Welcome Vilas J Langdon 47 langdon Community Club Langdon School are Ellen 7th Grade Dlsneyland Betty and Da THE BACKGROUND OF THE VILAS HIGH SCHOOL FAIR The first Vilas Fair was held on Thursday October 28 l935 In the Town Hall This first attempt was a great success ln the evening Walpole assisted an the entertainment by putting on a play in addition to the one Vilas produced Vilas has 'put on o fair every year after that first successful attempt On Saturday September 20 T941 Alstead Acworth and Langdon combined with Vilas High School to put on a Three-Town Fair This was only a continuation of the fairs the three towns had participated in before Vilas took over the proiect in 1935. A Doll Carriage Parade was held at 9:30 A. M. followed at 10:00 A. M. by the street parade with floats horses and the band. A band concert was given on Millot Green at ll:30 A.M. Dinners and lunches were served by local organizations such as the Grange, lbbekah l.odge Ladies Aid and Aux- iliary Lhit No 57. That evening a play was presented by the Alstead Outing Club Inc. entitled Aunt Tillie Goes Town After the show there was dancing until midnight. A fine day and evening were enio fed by all. That was the last Three-Town Fair to be held in this town. The annual event has been since l94l under the auspices of the home economics and agricultural departments ofthe high school.
