HARITIES lending Q Qi id Sludenls at VHHS often demonstrate their concern for the less fortunate by donating both their time and money. Once again the Key Club hosted the annual Lakeshore wheelchair bas- ketball game to raise money for Gifts, Inc., the Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center, and other causes. As the year progressed, the disastrous hurricane in Jamaica showed students the ne- cessity of helping the needy in other countries as well as at home. So under the direction of the SCA, the student body collected a truck-load of canned goods and $200 to help rebuild schools. Not long afterwards, the SCA once again directed the efforts to aid those less fortunate by organizing the Walk for the Homeless in conjunction with the school ' s bonHre. The project involved numerous clubs and other or- ganizations from the school with 350 partici- pants collecting 1000 cans of food and $1000. For its efforts, the SCA and school were rec- ognized by the Birmingham Hunger Project and received $1000, which is in turn being used to continue meeting the needs of the hungry. And finally, at Christmas, students responded to the needs of the community as SGA spon- sored pictures with Santa, that yielded $200 for Toys-for-Tots, and the annual Coodfellow col- lection topped last year ' s record. Wheeling for charity. Posing with Santa for Toys-for-Tots.
