And victorious is what they were as they defeated the Spartans with a score of 21-0. The scoring started in only the second play of the game when quarter- back Greg Smith made a perfect contact with tailback Mitch Allen for a 33-yard touchdown run. The Rebels ' second score came in the second period when Eldridge Grant blocked a punt, and Drew Smith returned it 12 yards. Prichard made the P.A.T. The final score came with only 4 minutes left in the 3rd period. Ted Mc- Cullough broke away for 12 yards to cap a 42-yard scoring drive. Prichard again converted making the final score 21-0. There ' s no stopping me. (G. Smith) Vestavia Walks on Walker After a spectacular opening game, the Rebels were hoping for another win. As the game ended their hopes were fulfilled by defeating Walker 12-6. The scoring started in the second quarter when Greg Smith went in for a one-yard plunge and kicker Danny Prichard made the P.A.T. Later in the game, Prichard kicked a 30- yard field goal. The final score came when fullback Ted McCuUough fumbled the ball in the end zone and Brad Spencer fell on it, making the final score 17-6. Another play like that and you ' ll go Pro. Rebels Tear Up Tiger s The Rebels proved that they were more than ready to play when, only five minutes Into the game, they drove to the lyard line. From there Ted McCollough scored, and Danny Prichard converted the extra p oint to make the score 7-0. Gadsden came within the Reb ' s 5 twice but were stopped by V estavia ' s defense, once on downs and once on a fumble recovered by Ted McCullough. In the third quarter. Drew Smith ended a drive on a 7-yard scoring run to put the Rebels up 13-0. In the 4th quarter, Vestavia ad- ded to the victory margin by scoring twice — once on a 1-yard plunge by Mitch Allen, and the second on a 7-yard pass from Greg Smith to Phillip Lee. Both con- versions missed, but the final score was still 25-0. Meanwhile, on the sidelines . Vols Slip Past Rebels Vestavia and Jeff Davis were in a deadlocked 0-0 tie throughout the first half of the game. But during the third quarter, the Volunteers scored on a 71- yard pass play to make the score 7-0. The score remained 7-0 until, with only seconds remaining in the game, Jeff Davis scored again on a drive set up by a faked punt. The Rebels came very close to scoring time after time, but their drives were shut down by a Volunteer defense, making the final score 14-0 and ending the Rebels ' 11-game winning streak. I think rm stuck. (Coach JeHries) Could I have an instant replay? (D. Condra) 99 Vestavia Blitzes Bradshaw Vestavia maintained its excellent record by beating Bradshaw of Florence 17-0. The Rebels ' first score came in the opening period, when the Reb defense fell on a Tiger fumble at the 42. Vestavia then drove down the field and scored on a 16-yard pass from Greg Smith to Phillip Lee. Danny Prichard ' s P.A.T. was good. The next Rebel score came on another Bradshaw fumble at their own 29. Vestavia drove down to the 5, lost the ball, and then recovered it again. Pat Visintainer then went in from the 2 and Prichard ' s PAT made it 14-0. After a scoreless 3rd period, Danny Pritchard kicked a 19-yard field goal in the 4th to make the final score 17-0. The game was a tremendous success for the Rebels, expecially for quarterback Greg Smith. The first Vestavia score came on a 6-yard run by Smith to give the Rebels a 7-0 lead. Danny Prichard also had a very good night, as he completed 2 field goals — one from 27 yards out and the other from 33 yards out. The final score came on a 13 yard run by Greg Smith. The 2 point conversion was good; and at the end of the game, Vestavia was victorious with a 21-0 shutout of John Carroll. Rebels review strategy. 100 Ju«t don ' t tlckU my to«t. Vestavia Loses Heartbreakers Vestavia suffered two heartbreaking one point defeats as they lost to Homewood and Carver, successively. The march to victory began when Drew Smith blocked a Shades Valley punt, and Bill Birken caught the deflected ball and ran it in for the touchdown. With a run of 11 yards, Ted McCullough evened the score, which had been 14-7 at halftime. The final three points came on a Danny Prichard field goal, which led to another homecoming win. The Bucaneers ' first score developed on a Vestavia fumble.
