Rebs Bag the Gators Vestavia started its football season off with a bang when the team gunned down the Mt. Brook Spartans 28-14. Vestavia, on its first possession, drove 61 yards with a one-yard plunge by Lance Gulledge for the opening touchdown. At the beginning of the 2nd quarter, Danny Salchert made a spectacular 62-yard run for the next Rebel touchdown. Then, seconds before halftime, Phillip Lee received a 21 -yard pass from Sal- chert to make the score 21-0. The final touchdown was scored when John Wil- son ran in from the ten. This assured the Rebels of their first victory with a final score of 28-14. They ' re wearing IZOD what? (C. McCallum, J. Looney) That extra effort. (L. Gulledge) Rebs Walk Over the Vikings Rebels beat Walker 12-6. Rebels received the opening kickoff and scored in 3 plays, which included a 47-yard run by Lance Gulledge to the Walker 10. Danny Salchert took it in for the score. On the Rebels ' second possession they drove for 69 yards, scoring on a touch- down pass from Salchert to Joe Rob- bins. The Rebels failed on both their attempts for the extra point. Walker scored in the fourth making the final score 12-6. On the count of three we ' re running to Hardee ' s. 184

Rebs Track Down the Tigers The Ragin ' Rebs caged the Gadsden tigers with a 35-7 victory. The first Rebel score capped a 64-yard drive in which Danny Saichert completed a 35-yard pass to Chuck Tartar. The score came on a 3-yard plunge by Lance Guiledge. Danny Priichard added the PAT. The second touchdown came on a 5-yard run by Ted McCullough which ended a 53-yard drive. Pritchard ' s kick was true. On the next Gadsden posses- sion. Brooks Browne intercepted a Tiger pass which he carried to the Tiger 28. The offense took over and Lance Guiledge scored on a 5- yard run. The next Rebel score came on a 34-yard TD pass to Matt Sankey. Saichert passed to John Wilson for the 2 point conver- sion. The final Rebel TD came when Ricky Rookis recovered a blocked punt in the end zone. Pritchard ' s kick was good. I know my contact is here somewhere! Rebels Battle the Bruins, 42-6 After the Bruins gave the Rebels a scare by scoring first on a fumbled punt, the Rebel defenders did not let them closer than the 34-yard line. In the first half, Vestavia scored three times. These scores came on a run of 1 yard by Lance Guiledge and runs of 3 yards and 12 yards by Danny Saichert. In the second half Vestavia scored three more times, the last one coming on a 2-yard run by Greg Smith. Danny Pritchard ' s extra points were good. The following week the Rebs experienced a heartbreaking loss to their biggest rivals — the Berry Bucs. The only Vestavia TD came on a 17-yard pass from Danny Saichert to split end Matt Sankey. Pritchard ' s kick made the final score 14-7 in favor of the Bucs. A new kind of pyramid? 185
