The Crazy Costumes of Halloween This year ' s Halloween brought many unu- sual characters to Vestavia. Each class and the taculty dressed up in a certain era or category. The Freshmen came as cowboys, while the Sophomores came as monsters. The Juniors dressed up as people out of the fifties, and the Seniors wore the latest craze, togas. Last but not least, the teachers dressed as Hee Haw characters. The day was a huge success and everyone had a lot of fun.

P.T.A. Side Show The P.T.A. sponsored its first annual Side Show this year in the high school gym. The object of the show was to encourage payment of P.T.A. dues and to increase P.T.A. membership. As an incentive, the class with the most students attending was given half a day out of school. Different booths were set up around the gym including a fortune telling booth led by Beverly Brasell, a magic show performed by Kyle Holman, and most interesting of all a snake pit. There was also a stage show performed ever thirty minutes by parents, students, and teachers. With a large turnout, the evening was a huge success and enjoyed by every- one. 25

Assemblies Add Flavor to School Life On November 2, the Student Council hosted a covered dish supper for Jan Jeffries and Jay Michaels of WSGN radio. WSGN sponsored a High School Spirit Day, and honored the area high schools of Birmingham. After visiting each high school, WSGN returned to Vestavia and pre- sented the school with an award — Most School Spirit of the Year. This Atomic World was an assembly designed to teach students the characteristics of the nuclear world. Using volunteers from the stu- dent body, it presented scientific facts in a way that brought laughter to the audience. The effects of static electricity were demonstrated on Carol Colquitt ' s hair, and the effects of radiation were demonstrated by Allen Mason, Matt Kilgore, and Mark Thomas. I II 27
