Tlzeslbians Present Annual Play SPEECH AND DRAMATICS is a Workshop course taught by Mr. Armstrong. There are many phases of Work involved in this type of course and everyone is encouraged to participate in activities ranging from Forensics to Dramatics. The two classes of Speech and Drama began the year with the Fall Play, "Onions In The SteW". They planned the Thanksgiving Assembly with guest speaker Lieutenant Governor Brown and the totally different Christmas Assembly. By midterms, the Speech Team had already participated in several Speech Tournaments . The long weeks of tournaments were particularly successful with the team winning the Erie County Tournament. The season was climaxed by the State Finals and the Speech Dinner held early in the spring . A very successful, interesting year came to an end with the Spring Play entitled "Our Hearts Were Young and Gay". 20 Some of the members of the cast for "Onions In The Stew". 1966 was the year of another "smash hit" for the Speech and Dramatics Department . The two speech classes combined their talents and under the direction of J.R. Armstrong and student director Trudy Tischer, produced Betty MacDonald's "Onions In The Stew" . The play was applauded by everyone as having been well done and indeed it was. Susan Backus and John Neff were cast as a typical married couple, who, while trying to make their home on an island must also cope with the problems of their teenage children, Marilyn Schrack and Betsy Kim- mick. While the MacDonalds are trying to settle themselves in their new life away from the city, we meet the various island folk, most of whom are plumbers . The rapid pace of the play carries us through the happy carefree moments of island life withtwo teenagers . The play, however, was much more than just an evening of laughter. In it there was a rare understanding of young people and avaluable lesson in getting something truly worthwhile from life. Onions in the Betty MacDonald Don MacDonald . Anne ....... joan ...... It can only summarize and at- tempt to capture the Wonderful moments of a high school year. The amusing and serious, Work and play --all are captured in the preceding pages. No matter how briefly a sports event is summarized or a club activity described, there is no doubt about the time this year's staff has spent in recording these events . Its shortness Will last to be paged through and exam- ined for many years: but for now, all good things must come to an end, and so must the 1967 LOG . 128 M Y - - - -- .-- V-V iw.:-. ,Qwfu Swami, Spfcmw :LLJNQJ-7X 0, ' Lam 'HSMYUY V ,cJ,4,Uz,4 OLD - QCRMLIQ ,Gill ,CdzLUu',u.'Lfn?g7fn'7,L DW f ' QVLLOL mwkewfgwn- Cyst Q,nfvJ4 0-6 ELL QCLJYWLEA uw vfxoqpm Shekel.
