Red Devils The 1987 football season was Coach Gene Hulseyis first year as head coach of the Verbena Red Devils. Even though the Devils' record remained 3-7, the Devils matured and gained experience during the season. The team improved as the year progressed. Several of the Devils, games were hard fought defensive bat- tles. The Holtville and Trinity games were won in the final quarter by big plays. The highlights of the 1987 season were the Thorsby, Autaugaville, and Isabella games. In these games, the Devils played up to their potential. V.H.S. will be losing six seniors this year. Approximately seventeen players will be returning for the 1988 season, and the players are already looking forward to next season. Coach Hul- sey has already begun an extensive weight program to prepare the Devils physically for next years season. ' 21
