DEAN LEATHERS The Vanderbilt Medical School is recognized as one of the leading schools in the country. One of the main reasons for this leadership is that it has a ways been headed by out- standing men in the medical profession. The present Dean. Dr. W. S. Leathers, has achieved great distinction in the medical world. He was educated at the University of Vir- ginia. the Univers'ty of Chicago, and the Harvard University Medical School. He has an LL.D. Degree from the Univer- sity of Mississippi where he served as Dean of the Medical School. He was Director of Public Health for the Missis- sippi State Health Department and served as a member of the Mississippi Board of Health. One of the most impor- tant positions held by Dean Leathers was President of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dean Leathers pro- fessiona1 Interests ore centered around studies in preventive medicine and public health. With such a man as Dean Leathers os its head, the position of the Vanderbilt Medical School os a leader will never be threatened. C—itiuuill.il tell cts 0 ill ii n i v iis i i y DEAN ZEIGLER The newest Dean at Vanderbilt is Dean Frances Helen Zeigler of the Vanderbilt Nursing School. Dean Zeigier, a graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, was for- merly Dean of the School of Nursing at the Medical Col- lege of Virginia at Richmond. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree from Columbia University. Vanderbilt's new Dean does not confine her interests and activities to her profession alone, but takes an active part in social welfare work. She has served on the Board of Directors of the A lance for Guidance of Rural Youth and is still active in this organization. She is a member of the National Com- mittee of Red Cross Nursing and of the American Associa tion of Universities. Her vast experience and excellent edu- cation makes her well qualified for the important position that she now holds. The Nursing School, under the leader- ship of Dean Zeigler. will keep pace with the progress of the entire University in the future.
