Every effort has been put forth to make this volume of Tiib Com- modore worthy to be placed beside the lx?st f those of past years, but it is not with unmixed confidence and hope that the Staff offers it to the student Isxly, alumni, and friends of Vanderbilt. However, it is the best that we could do, and as such it is issued as the record of the year at the University. There have been a number of changes in the book this year, al- though not so many as marked the annual of 1 !»« !». The book is smaller than that of the year before, but this decrease in size is more apparent than real, much of it resulting from the elimination of a large number of blank pages throughout the l H»k. The athletic records are not so voluminous as those of the former year, hut the records in scholarship, debating, and oratory have been enlarged and corrected in a number of places. There is still much work to le done upon this branch of the records of the Uni- versity before it can be said to he complete, however. The most important change in the way of reduction has been in the preparatory school and State clubs. The few that are represented in Tub Commodore are bone fide organiza- tions, and do not simply have a paper existence. The Editors desire to especially thank the contributors, for it is their work that has made Tub Commodore what ' is. It has been the good fortune of the Board to find an unusually large number of students with ability to draw or write, and it has found all of them willing to give their best efforts to Tub Commodore. 16)
