Upon your arrival here in the Golden State, you will be greeted by an appreciative United States of America and an equally enthusiastic and grateful California. It has been a long time since we have been as united in a common effort or more supportive of our men and women in uniform. This unity is most inspiring and underscores the respect which the American people have for the courageous and committed manner in which you undertook your duties in support of operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In the proud tradition of America's fighting forces, you came together to form a cohesive, well-trained and purposeful military machine that assured us of overwhelming victory. As you pursue your future interests, you should carry with you the pride of having served your country so admirably. We are indebted to each of you who so capably carried the banner of American strength and resolve, and to your families and friends who have endured your absence with great persever- ance and steadfast support of your vital mission. Once again, I am honored to salute all of you for a job well done and am pleased to offer a warm welcome home. God bless you all and God bless the United States of America.
