Freshman Class History
Last lall one hundred thirty-three Fresh-
men, known as "greenies", gaily trooped into
Van XVert High. Completely ignorant ol' high
school lile, we lost our way to classes, lorgot
locker ccnnbinations, and turned up at the
right place at the wrong time. Alter a lew
weeks, however, everyone had recovered sutfib
ciently to hold class elections amd to elect lour
oulstamding "grec-nies" as ollicers: President,
Howard lfellersg Vice-president, 'Iudy Driscoll:
Secretary, Nancy Dustman: Treasurer, Mari-
lyn Spridgeong amd Carol liggerss, Howard
lfellers, l-larry Kouts, and Dana Rider to rep-
resent us on Student Council.
On the high school lootball team, we found
our classmates .lerry Busch, Howard Fellers.
.lim llorclan: on the basketball teann, Ronnie
Dilhone and -lim jordan: amd on the baseball
team, jim jordan and Bob Keith.

Sophomore Class History
Not Freshmen, and not upperclassmen -
just plain Sophomores. Not being as excited
as last year, we breefed through elections and
came out with Benny Spieth, President: Mary
llerome. Vice-President: Karen Brockert, Sec-
retary: and Reha lilston, Treasurer.
Our representatives to the Student Couneil
are .Iohn Blake, -lack X'Valdron, Ann Helmam,
Richard Giessler, and Chuck Richey.
Our class did its share in upholding the
honor ol' the Cougars in basketball, with Gail
Burget, Bill Gipe, Dave Hertel, Dean -Iohns,
Karl Knodel, Stanley Miller, Danny Murphy,
Danny McConahay, Chuck Richey, Larry
Roesuer, Nathan Schaadl, and Stanley Scott
on the squad.
We were also represented on the lootball
team by Roger .Xgler, lfrancis llalliet, Rick
llarrientos, Bill Dias, Gerry Dierks, Ronnie
Doner, Gale Gilliland, Ollen klones, Travis
Kouts, Danny McConahay, Chuck Richey.
Nathan Schaadt, Stanley Scott, l'hil 'l'anner.
and Lester XVisener.
lloth the Sophomore boys and girls hold

as upperclassmen and we hope that they will
be as enjoyable as our lirst two years in high

For the past three years we have sullered
and toiled to come to this day, and now we
lind that we still have one summer to bear
until we cam call ourselves Seniors. This year
Gerald Jerome has served as Class President:

retary: amd -lc-an Purdy, Treasurer.
XVe were represented on the Student Coun-
cil by Laura Gold, Bob Stemeu, lletty Holin-
ger, .Ioyce XVilliman, Dick l'acker, lid Linser,
amd Gerald -lerome. Laura Gold, Sally llarvis.
Cynthia Mlhite, 'l'erry lfarlow, Gerald 'I'hatch-
er, and Larry Gilliland were chosen lor the
Shirley 'lohns and Doris Rhodenbaugh have
served as majorettes lor two years. Colletta
Collette, Alanet Kreischer and llanice XVells
were varsity cheerleaders, and .Xudrey Kreisch-
er was a reserve cheerleader. Aloyce lVilliman
and Lloyd Lee represented the .luniors as
Homecoming .'Xttendamts. Laura Gold was
elected to attend Girls' State. with .Xlyce lX'eck
On the football lield .lim Young, Frank
Scott, -lay Mcliim and Mfillie Hernandez car-
ried the ball, while Ld Linser. Alerry lsllgillll.
Dick Smith. Dick Packer and Lloyd Lee were
the stalwarts ol' the line. In basketball Young.
Hernandez, Fugafli, McKim, Smith, XVisen-
born, Gribler, and Stemen carried the Scarlet
and Gray. Scott, Hernandez. Smith. Fugani.
Gribler, and Carter were on the baseball
squad. Fugafli, Mcliim, and Doxtater were
on the Cougar swim team.
The class ol' '53 presented a riotous comedy.
Home Sweet Homicide, witlt over 20 members
in the cast.
lVe held important positions on many cabi'
nets and held offices ol' school organizations.
Through the years we hope that we. the
class ol' '53, will do our share to uphold the
traditions ol' not only our school but also our
