GIRLS' ACTIVITY BOARD The three Graces of mythology, Euphrosyne Uoyj, Thalia CBloomi, and Aglaia fBrillianceJ, found many gentle follow- ers in the gracious Girls' Student Body at Van Nuys. This or- ganization is led by a group called the Girls' Activity Board under the able sponsorship of Mrs. Margaret Vvard. It con- sists of the elected officers, the various committee chairmen. and the representatives of each grade. The duty of this Board is to plan and guide interesting and helpful programs for the semester. Although it is the Board which is given the most recognition for accomplishment. the girls who work on the committees, such as decoration. refreshment, entertainment. and clean-up, deserve much credit for any success. The year started off successfully as the Board presented a iclxlew Girls' Assemblyv, where they introduced the Board of Control, the president of Ladies, the G.A.A. president. the councilors, and themselves. Great emphasis was placed on the importance of the girls backing up their school leaders by participating in the many social functions available. Gay entertainment completed the delightful assembly. The Girlsl and Boys' Activity Boards combined their ef- forts to bring to the student body the full length pictures of :'Broken Arroww. ul'll Get By , and i'Dancing in the Darkf, One of the outstanding shows presented during the year was the Royal Guards , a colorful group of men with fine FIRST ROW-V. Aldridge, D. Wi voices and a talent for comedy. They sang a variety of songs. and the audience received them enthusiastically. On May 7, the Girls, Activity Board presented the glam- ourous May Day Festival. The theme for the occasion was 'iCoronation.', Lynn Keyes was in charge of the gala affair. An Honor Girls, Tea was enjoyed by a selected group: the Let- tergirls. the Ladies, all feminine board members, and senior girls on the Mirror and Annual staffs. These girls enjoyed the tea very much. One of the highlights of the season was the traditional Mother and Daughter Banquet, equal to the feast of the God- dess Athena. The uMusical Harvest was held in November and the theme symbolized a bounty of music around us. That evening girls from our school and their mothers enjoyed watch- ing talent-loaded entertainers. Dolly and Teresa lVIcFarlin charmed the audience with a frolicsome pantomime. The mothers were serenaded by Marilyn lVIurdock's tender rendi- tion of HMy Mother , pulses pranced to a South American beat when Elaine Marden played i'Blue Tangow on her accordion, and Janet Jackson did an acrobatic dance with a grace which many girls envy. Although it is not 'generally known, the suc- cess of the event was due to the careful planning of Carol Liddiard. The Girls' Activity Board received much praise and hearty congratulations for achieving their goal of a happy and cooperative Girlis Student Body. nton, L. Anderhazy, S. Eckhaus. SECOND ROW-D.
