Some of the ac- tivities of Sigma during the past year were the preparation of original literary and oratory works to be entered in competition on Lit Night, a Christmas Party held at the home of Dr. G. Tice, and their annual Spring Banquet. Sigma Tau started a new tradition this year by abolish- ing informal initiation of new members. Instead these new members spent one Saturday after- noon beautifying Van Horn’s campus and re- decorating the wastebaskets throughout the building. Mr. Stewart was again sponsor, com- pleting two highly profitable years at the helm of Sigma Tau. Sigma's feel that they have up- held their society’s ideals-Service and Training. Thespian troupe 1313, under the direction of Robert Klamm, has suc- cessfully presented for the pleasure of the Van Horn audiences many such plays as The People vs. Max- ine Lowe,” The Diary of Anne Frank.” and this year’s production of Outward Bound.” The Thes- pians always strive to live up to their motto, Act well your part. During the course of the school year, time was alotted for the pres- entation of the annual Thespian as- sembly. This year's presentation in- cluded Still Alarm. a short play by George Kauffman; Tribune Primer, a group of short poems by Eugene Fields; and an excerpt of the love affair of Pyramus and Thisbe from A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Shakespeare. Although presenting successful plays is their main objective, the Now Charles, don't he modest. Thespians also strive to produce plays that are challenging and which contain certain obstacles of some difficulty. For example, this year’s play, 'Outward Bound”, was basically an adult play with such complexities involved that it was not advisable to present before a public of children and adults. Thus, the Thespian troupe set about to rewrite and recast the play in order for it to be suitable for our Van Horn area public. Despite all their work, the Thes- pians have had fun making scenery, directing and producing plays, and especially taking in new members. But as new members come in, the seniors must leave. So, at the end of the year, the Thespians hold a traditional banquet in honor of these departing fellow actors. Row One, Left to Right: John Downey, Fred Hendrix. Dennis Lewis.
