Mitchell, Fleanor help VBHS students gain best education In an effort to help students gain the best education possible at VBHS, the problems fac- ing the school and the students are worked out by Mr. Bill Mitchell and Mr. James Flenor, VBHS principal and assistant principal. Mr. Mitchell has many duties to perform throughout the day as school principal. lf a new teacher is needed to be hired, Mr. Mitchell has the responsibility of hiring a new teacher as a replacement. He also is in charge of approving all club activity calendar. Balancing the school budget and approving the schedule changes of students are other responsibilities of Mr. Mitchell. He is also in charge of managing Van Buren High School's entire education program. Mr. Flenor assists Mr. Mitchell with many of his duties every day, Mr. Flenor patrols the halls and parking lots, checks on students' attendance, fills out absentees, and disciplines students. afwqv 311,29 Mr. Billy Mitchell, B. Supervisors guide school smoothly Superintendent of schools, lVlr. James R. Tate, is the man who makes it all work. He graduated from Van Buren High School in 1948, then spent five years at the University of Arkansas, receiving a master's degree, and majoring in physical education. After two years in the United States Army, he entered the Van Buren educational system in the fall oi 1955. He coached the junior high football team two years. In 1958 he worked alongside Coach Clair Bates, serving assistant football and basketball coach. Serving as of VBHS four years, 1963-67, he soon acted as superintendent under lVlr. Robert VV. Stephens, being his last position before being named superin- of schools. Eight active school board members directed by Dr. J. Graham, president, work alongside lVlr. Tate, in- lVlr. Otis Arnold, Nlr. Gene Bell, lVlr. Robert lVlr. C. J. Franklin, lVlr. Gene Neidecker, lVlr. Poague, and lVlr. Iverson Riggs. New to the administration this year is lVlr. Bill serving as Federal Programs Coordinator. lVlr. Larry Higgins is in charge of special education while lVlr. Clyde Taylor takes charge as main- supervisor. Cafeteria supervisor Anna B.
