These are all things with new beginnings - all fresh and alive, Our
own Valley View has also seen new improvements, including new
teachers, a new field, new computers, a new library, and new tympani,
to name a few. But more important than all of these is the ultimate
new beginning - a new birth in Christ. It is a time of renewal -
beginning again.

The school board would like to take this opportunity to express its appreciation to all
involved in the operation of Valley View Junior Academy for their part in our quest for excel-
lence. Even though we are currently using some temporary facilities for our library and are aware
of some physical plant limitations we realize that a school is made up not of desks and books
and buildings, but of people. It is to those people we wish to express our appreciation for their
past support and accomplishments and our confidence in the future.
To the church members in our constituency, let it never be said that your vision was small
or your commitment to Christian education compromised.
To the administration and faculty, your enthusiasm is apparent in both the improvements in
our school buildings and maintenance and in student growth.
To the students, in times of ever increasing turmoil it is a pleasure to watch your develop-
ment in both educational excellence and Christian standards.
This year has offered us some new beginnings, and although perhaps marred by some old
mistakes, through Christ there is always another opportunity and another new beginning.
of U, M.
In this year of 1980, we start a new decade. New
beginnings come to us with the new year. But even as we
look at important beginnings, this book is more like the
Book of Remembrance, being made up of the deeds of our
lives.
It is my sincere hope that the beginnings of vision that
you have caught here will bud and blossom in your life to
reach the goal of faithful and dedicated service.
Even as you try to make new beginnings remember that,
"No star is ever lost we once have seen
We always may be what we might have been."
Sincerely yours, in

Spiritual
There have been many new beginnings at
Valley View this year. No beginning is as
important to us as Christ's followers as a
new spiritual beginning. Several students
have chosen Christ as their Saviour and want
to know more about Him. The Friday after-
noon study group was a result of the student
week of prayer. We can really see how placing
more emphasis on spiritual things has
helped us get along better and has boosted
morale.
Before this school year, religion, for
many of us, was just something we did. As a
result of our weeks of prayer, Bible camp,
and study group, Jesus has come alive. ln
the years to come, we hope to see more
emphasis on the Christ-centered life and
more activities revolving around this subject.
We can see His Spirit working in the lives of
many of us . . . working to make Valley
View a better place for all.

Giving. That's really what Christmas is
all about. Not just giving of gifts, which can
become so expected, but giving of one's
self- which in our world is so unexpected!
Some 2,000 years ago, when God sent
His Son to our planet, He was really giving
us the first Christmas gift. But, unlike the
gifts we so often give at Christmastime, His
gift was a part of Himself. It was the ultimate
example of a gift motivated by a "perfect
love" which is available only through God.
lt's this "perfect love" that God wants
us to know more about. And it's the real
reason for which He sent His Son to Earth.
God knew our view of love had become so
distorted, so limited. Our love is so often
based on how others treat us. But God
wanted us to know that His love - perfect
love - is never affected by how we react to
Him.

Heaven's gift was Jesus. And until we
really understand the love He came to
share, we are missing out on the greatest
gift ever given. lt's a gift that never wears
out like most Christmas presents do. ln
fact, the more we are willing to accept of
God's gift, the more it will invade our lives
and begin to touch others.
Cur Valley View Christmas program this
year was planned to help .us catch this
vision of God's "perfect love." But most of
all it was planned to help us experience the
personal joy that comes only from passing
on to others what God has given to us -
Jesus - HEAVEN'S GIFT TO EARTH.

Music
This year launched a new beginning for
our instrumental music department with a
newly formed band and beginners' band. The
new tympani are a tremendous asset to the
band as we attempt to inspire others with
the music we perform.
New to Arroyo Grande, Mrs. Robinson is
working to build up the piano department of
our school.
Hundreds of hours of practice will bring
us to new horizons of musical possibilities.

activity . . . Teachers correcting papers,
reading stories, blowing whistles . . . Excite-

With the excitement there is also the
soberness of the hour when the school is
deserted, but only for a little while. For soon,
people fill the halls, classrooms, and play
ground of that beacon on the hill, Valley
View.

Physical
Educat ion
.God's plan for His children involves our
physical as well as our spiritual and mental
restoration. Physical education is an educa-
tion in maintaining maximum efficiency and
purity in our bodies and minds. At Valley
View the emphasis is placed on cooperation
rather than competition, and traits of
diligence, selflessness, and excellence are
encouraged. For God as bought us with a
great price, so we use every part of our
bodies to give glory back to God, because
He owns them. 1 Cor. 6:20

These officers have led us as we attempted to
begin new efforts, like sponsoring a Korean
orphan and meeting with other church youth
groups. Projects such as picking walnuts and
orange sales were used to help our school
purchase new equipment.
We have all worked together and united into
one for Christ to make this 1980 A.S.B. perhaps
the best one Valley View has ever had.

This year's DD yearbook staff,
though small, was quite efficient.
Each had his own department
and each did his part to make
everything run smoothly and on
time.
We would like to especially
thank Mr. Dale Ftusch, who
helped us in designing the cover
and division pages of our year-
book. Also a special thanks to
our teachers, Mr. Blake and
Mr. Kurts, for letting us in and
out of classes at various times.
Mrs. Jespersen, our advisor, led
us to a very successful yearbook.
Many thanks to her. We are most
grateful to Darin Gabbert and
Vivian Matar, who worked on the
DD staff while they were still
attending Valley View.
God's blessing on the 1981
DD staff!
