'-5 HARDWUUD HI - LITES Valleys golden tide started off the season with a smashing 81-32 victory over the Wfildcats of Masonic Home. The Vikings highly polished machine began to roll from the'opening gun and led at the half 32-18. The Yellow jackets seemed to completely be- futldle the cats with the sensational play of jerry Moreman leading the way as he tallied 24 points for the evening. Atherton came to Valley riding to the height of .1 three game winning .streak and wen home sadder but wiser on the short end of 52-58 score. jerry More- man was high forthe night with 18 while Eddie Las- siter turned in .1 sterling floor game in tallying 10. Against Milton it was strictly no contest as Valley ruled over the visitors by a 69-41 margin. Moreman was high with 21 while Morgan tallied 18. Fern Creek tried hard but couldn't match the Vik- ings .iggressiveness as Valley won handily 59-34. Lester Loyless played one of his better games in scor- ing 15 points. Valley received the high honor of being invited to the Owensboro Invitational Tournament where, seeming to suffer from a case of jitters they never got rolling and lost to Owensboro 52-40. jerry More- man stood out in scoring 22 points. They redeemed themselves somewhat by trouncing St. Francis 57-20 the next night. After running over Shawnee 65-46, Valley scored an impressive win over highly touted Eastern 51-40. Moreman was high with 14 while Loyless scored 7. Valley rolled over St. Xavier in great style winning by 65-48. Big Harold Morgan got 15 and Lester Loy- less added 14, Again Moreman was high for the night with 17. jerry Nichols played a superb floor game for the Vikings. In the Flaget game, the Vikings had trouble hitting the hoop but managed to eek out a 45-43 victory. Bob Kimmel was outstanding for the Vikings. It was a team victory over Southern as Valley won 63-41. Morgan made 19, Loyless, and Moreman 10 forthe Vikings. Now ranked eighth in the State, the Vikings lived u to the honor by trouncing a strong Male High team P S4-45. Morgan and Moreman got 23 and 19 points respectively. 5 tlsv ,' an 9" ' ' -7 if "1-,X 9' . Losing only three girls from last year's team, Valley had enough exper- ienced players left to form a pretty good team. Although they lost all of their six games. the girls were tough. They made the winners work hard for their victory. Ten of the seventeen players are seniors. Pictures of seniors on the next page. They started off well by winning their first four games and they hope to do the same with the next four games. They are trying to make this the sixthfonseeutive year that they have won the championship trophy. On December 4 the Vi-Queens conquered their first foe of the year by defeating lfern Creek by the store of 29 to 22. This gave the team more tonfidente, and they were ready to meet their setond foe, Kentutky Childrens' Home. With the help of Miss Crady during the absence of Mudge Charmoli. the Vi-Queen helped themselves to another victory by defeating this team by the score of 25 to 16. Xweltoming home their excellent coach. the Vi-Queens chalked up another game to their list by defeating Our Lady of Mercy by the score of 37 to 54. After an extiting battle on the hardwood, they defeated Fern Creek for the second time by the close score of 28 to 27.
