We have tried to set a lasting tradition of school life for our underclassmen this year, and we hope they will follow it in the years to come. We believe that our book will contain many memories of which we shared with you. We know that the guidance which the faculty has given us will help us in preparing for the fu- Illte. As you look through the following pages, the years of 1958 and 1959 will unfold before your eyes. Dedication We, the Class of 1959, wish to dedicate the 1959 "Tiger Tales" to Bill Coldiron, our yearbook sponsor. He has given us many hours of his time and has helped us in all our important school activities. He is not only a loyal teacher, but to us he is a true friend. We believe that he has the interest of all the students at heart. We only hope that we can follow in his foot- steps and make him proud of us in the years to come. FACULTY Faculty Mr. Lee, our very capable superintendent, is one of the leading citizens of West Des Monies. Through his many years of supervising our school administration wehave noticed many noteworthy changes and improvements. Mr. Lee is a very understanding man and we find him very easy to talk to about most anything. We hope to see him around for many years to come. We the class of 59 would like to extend ourappreciation to Mr. Bowen for his guidance during the past four years. Even though he is pressed 'for time his greatest desire is to prepare us to cope with the problems of the future. We know that our accomplishments of the future will be guided by Mr. Bowens leadership of today. The outstanding leadership that Mrs. Knapp has given us has not only prepared us for our High School years, but helped us to become young adults. Her never ending patience and wonderful understanding has helped many a student to straight- en o u t the problems to be faced in Junior High School years. We thank you for all you have done. chool ecretaries MARY NEASHAM IOLA SIMMONS MARIORIE COS PER CLEO WILLIAMS MARY COLLINS Faculty 5? wi? Bob died of a cerebral hemorrhage while in school. He was an honor student with a marvelous personality and was well liked by everyone. It was once said that time is a precious thing and that one should make the best of it. This is definitely what Robert Mc Cleary did. It has given every member of the Class of 1959 a new outlook for the future. MARTHA ANN AMICK "Marty" "Some pep, a laugh, a way so freeg such as most of us could never be." She has been Drill Team director for the past five years. Although not a member of the regular teaching staff she has devoted her time to working with this group of girls. The girls have done an outstanding job this year with many appearances throughout the state. Their headline per- formances for the 1958-59 season included: Iowa University, Central College, Iowa State Teachers College Relays, Pella Tulip Festival, and Drake University. The team captains for the 1958-59 season were Janet Thomas and Linda Moore. Sue Minear was Secretary-Treas- urer. J o Ellen Crooke, mascot for the group, added vitality to their performances. The Class of 1959 is proud to have the Drillettes represent- ing Valley High School! LEFT TO RIGHT: J. Thomas, S. Minear, N. Carson, C. Merical, B. Owen, M. Hodson, L. Moore, S. Baldwin, G. Grow, S.
