The History Department, headed by Buddy Robertson, made several changes this year in courses. Ameri- can Government, taught by Phil Ewing, was one new class which was an introductory course to political science. The class was mostly about national, state, and local govern- ments, with sections of each depart- ment in national government. Comparative Communism, also taught by Mr. Ewing, discussed Com- munism around the world and the way that form of government got started. Victor Crocco also taught two new courses this year: World Issues and Great Events in History. Students of the World Issues class voted at the first of the year what issues they wanted to discuss. Some issues cho- sen were energy crisis, pollution, the plight of the Indians, and Watergate. A new teacher in the History Department was Kathy Buck, who taught US History. With the two- credit system, which is in its second year, juniors had to do an outside project which accounted for much of their final grade. Many students took Sociology I, and for those who were more advanced, there was Sociology II. These classes were taught by Lasell Rector and Christine Willis, respec- tively.
