Then when years of life have left our memories hazy, this book will ist MR. IOHN MILNE J, an On September 5, 1956, the people of Albuquerque lost a true friend and qreat educator, Iohn Milne. After 45 years of faithful service to his fellow man, he finally had to stop his work and lay Clown to rest. With his passing, there ended a qreat era of educational history. His philosophy was based solidly upon the welfare of each stuitent, and no person's problem was too srnall for his sympathetic consideraf tion. This life is truly a great inspiration to all. Yes, he is qone, but his memory will linger on. 'Bl O O In the short history of our school we have been faced with several serious strifes and problems. We have been most fortunate, however, to have someone ready to step in as our leader when necessary. This person has had to take command of our ship in the worst storm that has hit us, but she bravely laid our course and we landed at the end of that year safely. She is again working in the background as assistant commander and is ready to step in at anytime. We humbly dedicate this SAGA to Mrs. Ferguson, o real friend to all Vikings. She has been our guiding North Star. 5 'N Z W ffm m m MH ,OP W jmwn A ff W M V H A Q f AX A fk fQ"Xi X CHE GHCE GF UHCHHULH. Miss Nell Bowers has been secretary since Valley opened three vears ago. Her efficiency and tigliness make her a most pleasant person to do business with. Besides being Mr. Stapleton's personal secretary, Miss Bowers finds time to school life. 'av in lrl keep the finances of the school in order: and the Saga staff is especially indebted to her for her many kindnesses to them. Mrs. Wimberly is a quiet and efficient person who helps lVlrs. Ferguson with the personnel records of the school. Mrs, Ferguson, our vice-principal, with her warm and sunny smile, presides graciously over the academic records of our student body. She assists lVlr. Stapleton with various student problems and because of her willingness to give understanding advice and help, both students and teachers always feel free to go to her. 'lm E s i 2 f 5 i Mr. Stapleton is a man known to every student at Valley High. Last year we knew him as our counselor and now of course, he is our principal. Although taking over a principalship is no doubt a Very teflious task, lVlr. Stapleton has helped make every Viking a proud one due to his great support of our school His patience, set goal-a, and ideals en courage us through our many successes and failures which we meet in daily ' daecfoz Perhaps one of the most popular people at Valley, and a true Viking is our activity director, Marie Hays. Her never changing sense of humor, patience, and loyalty to our school make her a grand person and a favorite to work with. efoz Mr. Dixon, our head counselor, has introduced to Valley this year many new plans and ideas. Why, it's almost fun going to the counseling office: and when we've received his guidance and advice, we leave with a feeling of friendship and self' confidence. Assisting Mr. Dixon as counselors are Miss Deen, Mr. Goodner, and Mrs. Nobbs. They counsel the students, not only in school problems, such as SCh9duliI1g Gnd selection of COUISGS. but also aid them in their personal problems. -...... 'fir . v ' an 'Q 4 E x QV!-H .f ,. 3 ef f . Students ---- 0 0 A ' 'CI-7 We are apt to see these Vikings almost any place, and be greeted with a warm smile followed by a friendly "hi". Ioan keeps busy in many school activities and spends her extra time meeting new people. Her smile is a welcome one and her interest in school life and personalities make her a won- derful person to know. Herb's hard work for Valley has made us proud of him. The Student Council has been an interest of his and he has done a fine job on committees of this governing body. Since these are our Senior Favorites, we shall miss them next year, but it's been wonderful having them at Valley. Two unforgetable favorites around school are IoAnn and Iimmy, both Sophomores. The fellows are likely to find Iimmy out on the football field or in the gym "working out" as he enjoys sports and spends much time taking part in them. Io, as ycu have noticed, is a member of the band and has also been an accompanist for the choruses. Her interest in school and studies keep her busy. Earlier this year she was elected State Secretary of the l.C.L. and she is an officer of Omnes Amares Tri- HisY. We're looking forward to seeing them next year and we can be certain their feeling is mutual. fi ..,..........l Two of the best known and liked Iuniors on the Valley campus are Martha Anderson and Frank Cano. They are both very active in school life and take part in a great number of our activities. Martha is a member of the Square Dance Club, Cflrbon Copies, and the Roller Skating Club. Frank is one of our star pitchers on the baseball team and he played end on the football team. He is also in the V-Club and the Viking Art League. Because of their outstanding work in Iunior activities and their pleasing personalities, we are proud to salute them as our "lunior Class Favorites". Two friendly smiles we see around Valley are those of Iudy Leisner and Bill Robertson from our Freshman Class. Iudy is very active in the Dramatics Club, Viking Art League, Spirit Club, Ice Skating Club, and she also works in the office. Sl1e's enjoying school life as a Viking and is as pop- ular with others as they are with her. Bill played end position on the Freshman football team and he participated in broadjump. His job occupies most of his extra time but he has found time to be on our Safety Council. We all look forward to seeing them around Valley next year.
