George -- fic is Our Man GEORGE LA UDER It will be a long time before the seniors of 1959 and the entire student body of Valley will forget the name of George Lauder. We wish to thank George for the honors he has helped bring to Valley through his excellent athletic ability. Our George began his athletic career in 1951 at the age of ten, when he joined Barton Little League baseball team, on which he played for three years. For three other years after this he played on the Pony League baseball team in Barton, which won the Pony League Championship in 1955. Then in 1956-57 George played on the Mid- land Post 169 American Legion team which won Mountain District Championship in 1957. At Valley he has played four years as first baseman or pitcher. In 1958 George pitched Valley 's first and only no hit game against Fort Hill. George 's baseball activities were extended to the Twilight baseball league for three years. In soccer, George played every game for four years as left fullback on the soccer squad and was chosen on the all-star soccer team for two years. But in basketball is where George has gained most of his popularity. Starting in the seventh grade he made the I.V. team. Then in the eighth was on first string on Junior Varsity. Then from the ninth grade to twelfth George has been on main string of the Varsity. We are so proud of George and all the team who helped Valley win the county championship in class B' for four years and two State of Maryland Championships at College Park, and this year the W.M.I. championship. In 1958 George Robert won foul shooting in the area over 388 players from 29 high schools in nine counties of West Virginia. Pennsylvania, and Western Maryland. His average for 94 out of 120 shots was . 7833. In the W.M.I. George was high scorer with 189 points. George Lauder of Valley High passed the 1. 000 mark on Tuesday night when he scored 23 points against LaSalle. This is his fourth and final season and he has amassed 1, 017 tallies in '76 regular season games. George had his name in the Dell Sports Basketball magazine in 1958 and again in 1959 for one of the top high school stars of the United States.
