W. 0 ' r ' 1 52' ,ack xlf' Q- 1 M ...J .. -V V 1m 'M-, .Q The 1977-78 Norsemen Basketball team had one of the toughest schedules in the county this past year, as they faced seven out of the top ten teams in the county. Although their win-loss record doesn't indicate it, they competed very well against these teams, losing only by 11 points or less in tive of those games. The Norsemen were successful in the lVlount Helix Invitional Basketball Tournament in December. They captured the Consolation Championship with a 64-51 win over Pioneer High School of Whittier. Bill Burgess, vvho led Valhalla during the three-game tournament, was named to the all- tournament team. Offensively, the Norsemen vvere very well balanced this year. Bill Burgess, Dave Dekock, Joel Fine and John lVlullen all averaged 9 points per game. Dave Dekock held the best single game performance with 25 points scored. The leading rebounder this past year vvas Bill Burgess, with Scott Herr, Norm Roach and Dave Schetselaar contributing greatly. The basketballers have their eyes on sixth place in the league standings as they enter the last month of the season. If they continue to work hard and play together that goal is easily obtainable.
