PART TWO PERFORMING ARTS Zorphus: This certainly is a jovial- looking group of saplings. Zulini: Are they always so blithesome? Pyle: Just about . . . they belong to a group called 'lTheater Valhalla , one of the many units of our excellent Performing Arts Department. Speech and Martial Arts are just a few of the others. Zorphus: Who are the curvaceous maidens with the multi-colored dermi- stockings? They look most ornamental. Pyle: Those girls make up our lVlodern Dance Club, a very creative group of young ladies who twist and turn their bodies as a form of musical expression. Zorphus: A form of expression that my scanners would very much like to view. Pyle: A mutual desire, my friend, but unfortunately these girls perform in just one show a year. Our instrumental i groups, however, can be heard anywhere from concerts to sporting events. Zulini: Hmmm ...they must play clangorously loud. Pyle: VaIhalla's IVlarching Band is one particular group that receives a large amount of exposure during football games. With the help of the lovely Norsettes and Drum lVlajors, Valhalla's band performs halftime ceremonies that never fail to be colorful and entertaining. Zulini: Why are so many of them sucking on those odd shaped decanters with the shiny, chrome-plated tinctures? Are they thirsty? Pyle: No, No, No! They're not sucking on those instruments! They're blowing through them and producing sounds. The drummers beat on large cylinders and maintain rhythm. Another large portion of the Performing Arts Department is made up of our talented singers, who in turn make up the Ensemble and Choir. Zorphus: Singers? Are they the vocalists who produce euphonic contrapuntal compositions by rapidly undulating their 'Iaryngal tubes? Pyle: Yes, and they sing well, too, Who knows, maybe one of these budding talents will someday grow up and blossom into another Enrico Caruso or Barbra Streisand. Zulini: what are they, plants? Pyle: No, not exactly, but I'lI explain that to you later. As for now, let's move along, there's so much more I'd like to show you .. .
