,,,.wwu-1 The 1977 Valhalla Cross Country squads are the most dynamic in the school's history. In the short time before the yearbook deadline on this write-up, the Varsity team, led by Senior Bob Monteverde, has shown its power by placing second at the South Bay Invitational and subduing Mount Miguel, and Granite Hills. A lot of the team's success is due to Valhalla's first H1000 Mile Summer Club. The charter members, Pat King, John Boncher and Larry Zambrano, earned their way into the honorary organization by running 1000 miles from June lst to September lst, The squad is rounded out by the phenomenal Junior Mike Heibing and Matt Stenzel. The entire team ran in the last year's CIF Finals, earning seventh place and are determined to be in the running for the championship this year. In the first year of sanctioned competition, the Valhalla's Girls' Team is an instant success. Led by State Track Finalist Cheryl Flowers, the team has beaten Monte Vista, Mount Miguel, and Granite Hills in the early going. They invite all of you to come out and run for fun! The Junior Varsity also has an exciting team that's ready to take a league championship. Things look bright for next year's Varsity with Ernie Perea, Bob Le Laurin, and Eric Richman ready to put on a Varsity vest. The Freshmen under Coach Jerry Mills are more than impressive. Ted Hughes, Lance Sevier, and Rich Brownsberger are not only the teams leaders, they may well be the best three Freshmen in the league. All in all, this leaves the Norsemen with the most successful overall program in the country. Good Work, Harriers!!
