PART ONE FALL SPCJRTS Pyle: This is Water Polo, a very popular sport at the Enterprise. Zorphus: Such curious cranium attire .. . what purpose does it serve? Pyle: The head gear serves primarily as identification and protection. This sport can sometimes get rough and brutal: but it's all in good fun, of course. Zulini: Land sakes! What is that unsightly creature with the scaly epidermis and webbed appendages? Pyle: Oh, that's just another girl from our championship Swim Team . . . each one of them is another Wish out of water. That's why they're League Champs. Zulini: Look Zorphus, those two armored battalions are lining up on a gridded field for some sort of combat. Pyle: No, my friends, that's just a football game. The eleven men on each team try to get the ball into the opposition's end zone for six points, or a touchdown. Zorphus: But why are they brutally smashing their noggins together, releasing horrid shrieks of pain and otalgia? Pyle: Who knows? lVlaybe they just want to stay in good physical condition. Let's move down to the tennis courts: the girls should be practicing about now. Zorphus: 10-S? What's 10-S? I'm not familiar with that empirical formula. Pyle: It's a game closely related to ping pong but played on a much larger scale. It can also be compared to volleyball, where the players try to hit the ball back and forth over a net without letting it touch the ground. Zorphus: Hmmm ...It must require a great deal of quickness and dexteriosity. Pyle: Yes, and they have to be coordinated, too. If you look off into the distance, you can see our Cross Country runners striding over that hill. Zorphus: Cross Country? Do they actually traverse the whole country? Pyle: Well, no, but, they do put in a good many miles. In fact, our tough young Harriers have just completed an enjoyable 9-mile road run. Don't they look happy? Zulini: Where we come from, such torturesome expressions of paroxym and agony usually indicate excrutiating pain and discomfort.
