0 Zorphus: Such an uncivilized society... Zulini: I overheard someone say that Usenior standouts ave going to be anriunced. lVlay I inquire as to the meaning of that phrase? Pyle: Well, each senior votes on 17 categories and elects one class member to lill each position. The categories include such titles as: Best Personality, lVlost Scholarly, lVlost Likely to Succeed, and many others. Zulini: I'd think that winning one of these titles would be a tremendous boost to one's ego. Is that actually the case Comrade Pyle? ' Pyle: Not really. IVlost of the modest seniors at the Enterprise don't have any ego problems . . . the Senior Standouts are merely intended to be fun. Zorphiusz That is most commendable. Back on our planet, any such reco nition to onei being would resu in overwhelming pride. Zulini: Yes, I must say that you have a most reputable group of seniors here. Pyle: Would you like to meet them? Zulini: Certainly: Wyre would one go for such an encounter lof the third kindl? Pyle: Nowhere . . . I've got them all right here. Let me introduce them to you, one by one . .. M - r eww ' ' it my L 1,-gg Hr pi . , b ,.Tu,i....t- up . 'iw' , iw .V Dawn F lm. 5: .JL ' a t me ' Deana Coreen Helen Al U . 4. , i. Zulini: We are most famishgd! Pyle: It's my pleasure, space cadets . . . I'm.certain that the seniors will enjoy your company at their banquet. Zulini: Seniors. . . I know what they are . . . they're men from that foreQn dominion known as lvlexico. Pyle: No, my friends, 'Qat's a Senor! Here at the Enterprise, a Senior is a person in their final year of high school. Nlanylplan on goirfg to college after their graduation! ' Zorphus: Graduation?:jfou'll'have to explicate that term. X Pyle: Well, graduation is a ceremony held at the end of the school year where the Seniors wear orange and white robes and squarehats. They walk up to a platform where I'm standing and I give them a piece of paper called a diploma. This is a certificate that shows they've completed high school. Zulini: That certainly sounds like a rip- roaring activity. I do hope we're in attendance. Zorphus: Does much cheering and frivolity permeate through the crowd? Pyle: Sometimes . . . but the most common sounds are those of mothers crying and restless children fidgeting in their seats. . These earth women leave me in a state of bewilderment. Pyle: You know, these seniors are very special because they're the first four year graduating class fronfvalhalla. When these youngsters graduate, every last one of the Enterprise's original students will be gone. Zulini: Aren't there a few lucky souls who get the opportunity to return and repeat some classes which were previously not passed? It seems grievous that all the original pioneers should be compelled to depart. Pyle: Amazingly enough, most of our graduates are eager to leave! Zorphus: Enough nasalation, Comrade Pyle! . .. lVly soupcd'n sensers are eagerly awaiting the prospect of popping some tasty tidbits into my oral cavity. Pyle: I don't know about you, but I'm hungry! Luckily, we've made it to the restaurant. Zulini: Are you sure that the seniors won't feel uncomfortable with our presence? Pyle: No, not at all! Basically, th3y're non-violent types. Zorphus: finside the restaurantl The seniors seem to be very dissatisfied with their meals. It looks as though they are protesting by undulating and gyrating their bodies. A Pyle: Don't get upset, Zorphus, they're just dancing again. Zulini: They never get enough, do they? Pyle: Dancing is actually good for the body and it's an easy and fun way to exercise. In fact, our seniors enjoy dancing so much that at the end of the school year they hold a Senior Prom. This is probably the last dance that they will ever attend during their years at Valhalla. Zorphus: Is that the gala occasion is which the participants adorn themselves in their most diligent garb and pretend that they're adults at an upper-class gathering? Pyle: Yes, but our mature seniors never try to mimic anyone , . . they are very sophisticated, and subdued adults in their own right. That is why they .usually go to Disneyland after graduation or some other place of pleasure, Zulini: Disneyland? l've heard of that place before. Isn't it the park where one can pay a small fee and experience ty adventure of their choice? Pyle: Yes, that's the place. Disneyland is as much a part of our American society as hot dogs, blue jeans, '53 Chevies, and your favorite, dancing!
