The 1978 Valhalla Girl's Basketball Team could be characterized as young and inexperienced. This years' Norseiadies are in a rebuilding stage as third year guard Tammy House returns as the only Senior on the squad. Juniors Lu Ann Gores C1977 Honorable Mention All Grossmont Leaguel, Julie Bristol, Carol lvletcalfe, and Jenny Bentley are the only other players with Varsity experience. The remainder of the team includes Juniors Kerry Bullock, Lori Hamelehle, Karen lVlcLevie, Carolyn Reed, Stephanie Jerris and Sophomores Diane Stone, Lori Linn and Liz Newell. The team makes up for their lack of experience and size by playing an aggresive, hustling, pressure defense. Teamwork will be emphasized throughout the season. A passing game offense allows scoring opportunities to be shared by several players. Against zone defenses, quick and accurate ball movement is encouraged. The girls work hard in daily practice knowing success in games depends upon the understanding and the execution of the basic fundamentals. IVlental discipline and physical conditioning are also highly stressed. They work to develop an attitude which will help them to achieve their goals. Hard work and dedication to excellence is emphasized so that the highest level of competitive play can be attained.
