First Whitley musical captivates audience. Under the direction of Mr. Charles Burt, the Music Department presented Swingin High , its first musical comedy, in April, 1970. The plot revolved around a stern new principal who im- posed arigid disciplined routine until a chemistry class explosion tossed him into an amnesiatic state. Arousing from this as a real swinger, he coupled fun with learning for all his school folk. Regretful teachers bid farewell to Cooper High's retiring principal, Henry Moore. Michael Johnson, converted into a really hip principal, over- Faculty members, David Arnold and Debbie joys or amazes students as he abolishes the harsh 'McDuff Plan. Liner, testify that ''You Gotta Have Experience. ' 14

Senior Week highlights art of giving. RG ei. Relaxing in the cool, senior males bow to the ultra element of contentment— satiation. Air of exp ectancy engulfs Senior Beth Bilisoly. 13 Seniors not only capitalized on the art of receiving but also pro- jected the art of giving during Se- nior Week, a weekset aside in May granting them special privileges. Appreciation for the right to drop the dress code and for a delightful fellowship picnic on the school grounds was reciprocated by grass cutting and broom sweeping the parking lot and surrounding area. In regimented style, Seniors armed with brooms sweep the student parking lot clean.

“Those Were the Days” unveils hidden talent. Those Were the Days , Whitley's popular Variety Show, played three nights in May, 1970, to a full house. Emceed by Dickie Stines and Larry Carter, the performance featured modern jazz routines, soul singing , and popular tunes. An original composition They Want to be Loved , as well as renditions by two faculty favorites, enthralled attenders. The presentation revealed the broad scope of hidden Whitley talent. Assisted by Landon Wilder, an old pro, Emcees Larry Carter and Dickie Stines rap'' with the audience. Debbie Tart penetrates the hearts of her listeners with her A Sly group imparts the urgency of brotherhood among plaintive song of needed love. Everyday People,
