Variety spices student life. Student life at Whitley was not all work and no play. Though study filled many hours of each day, there was often time between classes for a cheerful greeting to a special friend. Lunchtime, too, provided an opportunity for fellowship at the table or friendly banter while waiting in line. During football and basketball seasons, some days ended with stu¬ dents gathering in the gym or at the football field to spur the athletic teams to victory. One fall day was most outstanding, because prepara¬ tions were made for parents to come in the evening to see the school and to meet the teachers.
