Last spring the band traveled to Chadbourn, North Caro¬ lina, for the Strawberry Festival and represented the Wake County Shrine Club at the opring Cere¬ monial in Fayetteville. In the fall the band partic¬ ipated in the Wendell Har¬ vest Festival Parade. The Christmas season brought invitations from the Wake Forest, Zebulon, Angier, Apex, and Raleigh Christ¬ mas parades. The Concert Band per¬ formed on two occasions. At Christmas they and the Chorus presented a program of seasonal music. In the spring the band gave its own concert. Participation in the Regional Band con¬ test at Greenville in April climaxed the year ' s act iv¬ ities. In 1967 the group received a rating of Good. Combining their ef¬ forts, the band and chorus in the spring converted the Whitley Auditorium into a miniature Hollywood Palace and produced a variety show which ran for two evenings before a packed auditorium. Benton, C. Underhill, A. Broadie. During the year the Vaiden Whitley Mixed Chorus with its Accompanist Robin Knight presented several concerts and participated in festivals and contests. Its performing season started with a series of Christmas Con¬ certs at neighboring schools. The holiday programs over, work began in preparation for the District Contest in March. In 1967 at this event the group received a rating of Good. Concluding the year ' s activities were the Variety Show and the Spring Concert. Sixteen persons comprised the Mixed Ensemble which represented the school at a wide variety of functions. Mem - bers performed for civic clubs, appeared in concerts at Christmas and in the spring, and took part in the Gradua¬ tion Exercises at Whitley. In February the Ensemble also competed in the Solo and Ensemble Contest, at which last year ' s group received a rating of Superior. In March representatives of the chorus participated, with those of other schools from North Carolina, in the All-State Choral Festival at Greensboro. 30
