Our student council is organized for the high purposes of im- proving the high school, promoting self-government, creating a more intimate student-teacher relationship and in general, building for a greater high school student body. To these ends, the student council has worked and their success is evident by the fine spirit here at Uvalde High School. '5'- A iss. gals? - Nffif V st ll! 'Q AQ! Xmmifsr Whenlwas asked to write a message to be included in this Yearbook which is dedicated to the Student Council of our fine high school, I considered it a great honor. It is also a great responsibility for what we shall include in this book will be a record for the future generations to read. After much meditation, I selected DEPENDABILITY as an appropriate subject for this assignment. A person's permanent value rests upon his dependability - whether he is representing his fellow students in the Student Council or acting in any other capacity as a respected member of society. The first ques- tion asked when the selection of a person for a position of trust is, 'Can we depend upon this person? A person may be clever, capable, and agreeable, but if you cannot depend upon him, you do not want him around. And surely he will not be given a position of responsibility. This means that he will be passed by when the honors of life are awarded to those who are qualified to receive them. To be dependable, we must be dependable in all things, little and big, at all times, in all places, under all circumstances. We cannot be dependable if we have weak health, weak character, and a weak willg therefore, it is important that we look well to our physical, mental, and moral development. The dependable person keeps as straight in the dark as in the light. You know that wherever he is put he will not lie, he will not steal, he will not cheat, he will not do any mean or contemptible thing. You know that he will always be true to any trust placed in him. Oursincere hope is that dependability will be one of the principal characteristics of all who call them- selves Uvaldeans. M. B. Morris 4'1- br'- 9454 745k 4,4 0m 7eac4ew Aa. .n.! Your work is unsung at times, yet of great importance, and so in closing this school year of 1957 we say to you, Thank you for leading us so well and so patiently. Misty. 1 T'f'fQ.1,rk' f . This is one of the best teams the Coyotes have had in a long time, which can be proved by their fine record this year.
