DEDICATED T 0 THE SPIRIT OE UT ICA jUNIOR COLLEGE The spirit of Utica Junior College expresses itself in the excitement of sports events, the cordiality of to seasong the readiness to defend her and the princi- ples upon which she stands, the desire to promote her her students, the pride of victory, the honor of valor, the dignity of worth, and the concern of her faculty members. It includes those intangible Qualities which present themselves in the various communities from which her students come-the yearning to tread her campus once more and take in its beauty from season growth through hard work and devotion. Uticanites must take care to pass on this spirit just as it came to them-unspotted, honorable, and true. It is the heritage to face thc future with faith, hope, and courage. Board! MISSISSIPPI Orr-me or rm: Pmzsxunm' c Vgggpgofqgx 3334311 January 14, 1966 , Dear Students and Friends: The change to meet new needs seems to be the major concern today. Utica Junior College is a part of that change. In order to meet new needs of the students and the community the college has launched an expanded building program: a student union, which will be ccmmpleted by September of this yearg an administration-classroom building: Vocational.-Technical Complexg libraryg and Fine Arts Building. The college has a nineteen percent increase in enrollxnentthis year. This is based upon the 'increased opportunities for employment whose de- mands are greater than the college can supply. With the rate of the current increase in enrollrnent, by 1968 we plan to have one thousand college students. K The college has graduates who have transferred to and graduated from all the major senior colleges in our area and many of them graduated with honors. The Vocational-Technical students are working in industry with good salaries. The barbering and cosmetology students are placed in practically every barber shop and beauty salon in this area. The junior college is now in the process of doing its self-study as a part of the requirements for full accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Our High School Department has beenpfully accredited by the Southern Association for many years. Utica Junior College is able to expand and meet the new needs of the students because it has a well trained, energetic, and dedicated faculty and staff. t , I congratulate the staff of the Uticanite upon A job well done, Sincerely yours. Walter Washington President wwlejh UTICA JUNIOR COLLEGE IS TAX SUPFORYED ' llKEYfllX1!I!?u- S i X t 'T I QW' The Dean fr Mefyage Dear Friends, We often wonder what it would be like if we did not publish an annual each year. The lives of most of us are so crowded that there is not time or opportunity for the proper study of documents, papers, catalogs, books, etcg and indeed the world is so full of these that one could go but a short way in a lifetime devoted to reading. This year we have friends on our annual staff who have selected for our enjoyment the best of everything which has happened especially this year at Utica Junior College and has placed this before us so that We may familiarize ourselves with what has happened at Utica this year. Truly, all of us are indebted to the annual staff for putting together this unique publication. Our wish is that our words and deeds depicted throughout this annual will create an image which will complement the hard work done by the members of the annual staff and that all who read this annual will enjoy it to the fullest.
