The Music Dcpartment's presentation of a Christmas program in conjunction with the Drama Department, and a Musical Comedy rc- view were the highlights of this year's vocal music activities. Smal.l groups and the chorus also appeared at the Veterans Hospital twice during the year. Small groups and soloists performed at various civic meetings and programs, including the I.ion's Club Talent Show, which was held in the spring. The large group contests were held at Prairie City, Iowa, on May 2. The vocal department also took part in a tri-school festival held at Johnston in February. In the State Solo and Ensemble Music Context held at Dallas Center, entries who won Division I ratings were: Ensembles: Boys' Double Quartet A Girls' Trio Soloists: Anne Norberg Sandy Shnlts P anchita Rainey Karen Kunzman Jannes Nelson was our principle accompanist, with Linda Fickel helping with certain small groups.

The 1etterrnen's club was organized this year to promote better relations between the student body and the athletes -- to promote a more active athletic program, which turned out to be quite successful in its plans and activities. In the spring of 1958 a constitution was drawn up and officers were elected. The officers are: Danny Boals, President, Gary Willett, Vice-President: Dick Foote, Secretary, and Ronnie Johnson, Treasurer. Some of the projects of the U Clubhave been cleaning up the football field and concessions stand, buying warmups for the track teams, and purchasing target socks for the boys basketball team.
