OUR CLASS ADVISERS The distinctive feminine personality who may he seen at almost any time in the senior office. Room 107, is none other than one of our class advisers, Miss Pearl Ellinor Garcn. To her closest friends she is known as “Peg”— formed from the initial letter of each of her names. Tailored, good-natured, and efficient. Miss Garcn combines an excellent sense of humor with a businesslike manner, which is very necessary for a successful adviser. Her favorite hobby is that of collecting dolls from all parts of the world, with particular stress on those from the United States. Since her appointment as class adviser. Miss Garcn has been generous with helpful advice and untiring in her devotion to the betterment of our interests. She will long be remembered by our class. For three years, the class of 1944 has been groomed to make thjs anniversary year a truly historic one for Upper Darby. Although we were not introduced to our present adviser, Mr. William S. Kehl, until our junior year, this versatile guide has proven his ability as a capable and efficient leader. Mr. Kehl was the man for the job and. in spite of the fact that he was actively engaged in civilian defense and other community projects, he agreed to serve. From the first we admired his incisive wit and complete candor. He has given unstintingly of his time and energy to better our class. Mr. Kohl's patience and understanding have helped us make this important year one of the most enjoyable of our lives.

S OUR high school has grown during the past fifty years, so, too, has the respect and esteem for our high school’s first principal grown throughout Upper Darby and surrounding communities. The debt of gratitude which each of us, as students of the Upper Darby High School, owes to her can easily be appreciated when we think of the tremendous task which faced her in organ- izing the high school. Her successful completion of this task was proven by the excellent manner in which the school was conducted under her direction. Throughout her entire career as a high school teacher, prin- cipal, and librarian, she was a constant inspiration to Upper Darby students and an exemplary symbol of American womanhood. In sincere appreciation of her tireless efforts and of her many contributions to the community, we, the class of 1944, dedicate this yearbook to MISS ELISABETH D. TURNER Five
