In these uncertain times of H-bombs, unsettled foreign affairs, and turbulent domestic problems only a fool or a soothsayer would dare to predict the future. Since we purport to be neither, we can merely hope for the future of our University, believing that the dreams of today shall become the realities of tomorrow. W'c look forward to numerous alterations in The University as we have known it. for without change there can be no progress. Our University, founded in a spirit of dedication to the future, must adjust to satisfy the demands of a maturing civilization. There is, however, a fundamental influence on The I niversity which we call “tradition.” In part it signifies tin- wearing of coats and ties and a demand for gentlemanly conduct. Its more vital characteristics are an insistence on a community relationship based on personal integrity and the belief that the individual matures properly only in an atmosphere of personal freedom. Such tenets are the so-called “intangibles,” and they are essential to the future prosperity of The University of Virginia. Vi e who have developed a deep affection for 'flic University look hopefully to its future. We applaud its progressiveness but caution that it never forsake the better characteristics of its past as it moves toward the fulfillment of its destiny. R E A T E R

And “Buzzy” Wilkinson continued to make Virginia basketball history. After months of trying effort the Student Council and Mr. Darden reached an agreement of student government and political reorganization . . . The first student Judiciary Committee was established . . . And a last-stand course survey proved successful. As the yearbook went to press . . .
