T is difficult to over-estimate the deep and far-reaching influence of such a teacher as William Minor Lile. No student who was ever privileged to sit under him can forget his flashing wit, his keen power of legal analysis, his ability to arouse and sustain legal curiosity, and his almost uncanny power of clear, incisive statement in crisp and picturesque language. On the roll of the gifted teachers who have enhanced the storied fame of the University of Virginia his name will always occupy a high and honored place. On him, fortunately for the University of Virginia Law School, fell the task of developing and modernizing this law school at the close of the career of his kinsman, the great John B. Minor. With missionary ardor he brought to this task his extraordinary gifts of personalityuand scholarship and to it he gave the best years of his more than active life. I-Ie was literally the father of the law library and probably his was the greatest influence that prompted the late William A. Clark, Jr. fhis friend and former pupilj to give to this University, Clark Hall, the magnificent new home of the law school. Gentleman and scholar, teacher, author and administrator, William Minor Lile had earned fame by his deep and lasting contributions that have enriched the noblest traditions of the University of Virginia which for nearly forty years he so superbly served. --ARMISTEAD MASON DOBIE.
