Rlitllg April 1, 1933, at the age of twenty-one years, eleven months. At the time I L these lines were written, the pall of sorrow cast by his death still lingers over the , if f entire University, so widely was he icnown and so universally was he admired. 'g g i , r' , Thomas l.. Fishburne was born in Charlottesville, Va., on April 5, 1911. At the n i Q5 l i Episcopal l-ligh School, which he attended from 1925 to 1930, the richness of his ??' : lf nature first began to shine forth. Active in every phase of school life, he aroused P not admiration aione, but friendship and love. And as his favor increased and his - ' by it friendships widened, his character grew apace. in f During his three years at the University of Virginia, Tom Fishburne established himself in the hearts of Virginia students as few have ever done. Admired for what . W ig' 4, f-, he accomplished, loved for what he was, he made his life an ideal full of power Gi' 'A X A Q. and inspiration. Courteous and firendly towardseveryone, and modest in all his U achievements, he proved that sincerity and genuineness, when they are coupled f with ability, always win through to their own reward. g g in the full flower of achievement, Tom was taken from our midst. l-ie leaves a gtg? , , . gap in almost every field of activity. The boxing squad loses its co-captain elect ,hb i for 1934 and a Southern Conference Champion, Madison l-laii loses one of its gash' officers, the PK. Society,Si4uli and Keys, Eli Banana, t'Z,H and Seven Society mourn f 'fF:i., his loss. But the vacancy which cannot be filled is the vacancy that he leaves in in 3 the hearts of those who were his friends, for it was in the bonds of close friendship 2' that the true gold of his character could be glimpsed. yet, were it possible, we l would not have that vacancy filled by another. We would always iceep it as a xgmx reminder of a life which, even though passed, will continue always to inspire towards perfect courage, perfect integrity, and perfect manhood.
