College of Fine Arts Offers training in musical fields . . . and probably only college in which enroll- ment increases as studies become more advanced . . . furnishes majority of talent for University band, orchestra and A Cappella choir . . . housed in Tyrrell Hall . . . where the Art Department is also found . . . as is the office of Dr. Pontius . . . College of Fine Arts is magnet for much praise and publicity . . . and some condemnation . . . when assortment of practice sessions blends into horrible clamor . . . and grates unaccustomed ears. . .Dean Lukken livens up A Cappella . . . and his private lessons. . .with directions such as sock it . . . visitors to offices of President Pontius wonder how he stands the noise . . . but he claims to enjoy it . . . and leaves his outer doors open frequently . . . art students do most of their work on third floor, but can be seen sketching most anywhere . . . Dean's outer office popu- lar gathering place for everyone . . . perhaps lured by the free phone . . . but causing no end of confusion . . . especially when answering phone, taking mes- sages and forgetting them . . . presented many programs of various nature . . . but climax-ed the year with All-University Concert at Convention Hall . . . and attracted 2500 enthusiastic listeners . . . who want the affair presented annually . . . although some would like to limit band to swing or boogie-Woogie styles . . . not satisfied with efforts of Director Penn and his musicians during football season . . . and when that group can stand or walk . . . and play swing . . . everyone will be happy . . . with possible exception of a few unbending faculty members . . . most difficult prob- lem is getting personnel of band, orchestra or A Cappella together for picture . . . and then it's impossible to get uniformity of dress. flaw- I n-.,.... A. L. Lukken . . . dean of the College of Fine Arts . . . helps uphold the cul- tural end of the campus . . . is directly or indirectly responsible for the melod- ious efforts that constantly waft across the campus . . . played Boogie Woogie this year to the vast surprise and satisfaction of the public at large . . . towers above his desk in the office . . . substitutes sweets for smokes to save his voice . . . said voice proving its versatility by its great range . . . always appears at football games with his young son . . . commonly called just Dean,

Personnel-Advice-Assists Personnel Director . . . directs individual freshman enrollment, counseling, freshman orientation, general supervision of student housing, student and graduate placement . . . attempts to individualize the educational program for students by selection of faculty advisers for them . . . works closely with the college deans in carrying out the program. Counselor to women . . . advises women students of all four classifications, but specializes in orientation of freshman women by cooperation with the program of the personnel department . . . coordinates student life by the scheduling of events on the calendar, published monthly . . . assists in regulation of inter-sorority relations. Counselor to men . . . assists in the guidance program as outlined by the personnel department for University men . . . interprets the University to prospective students . . . regulates, through sponsorship of the lnterfraternity Council, the programs of the men's Greek-letter groups . . . maintains cumulative records for all students. W. E. Morris, lr .... di- rector of personnel de- partment . , . is an es- seiitial cog in almost all University machines . . . formerly publicity director and journalism teacher at T. U .... is still a vital member of the Board of Publications . . . handles student work on the cam- pus . . . is sympathetic and understanding . . . plays golf in his few spare hours . . . is truly a Southern gentleman . . . likes to spend his vacation near Birmingham, Ala- bama with his father . . . is a graduate of Duke . , . is mighty proud of his young son, Edward. Mary Clay Williams , . . counselor to women . . . and she is just that . . . proverbial latch string is always open to stu- dents who are worried . . . or in trouble . . . or who just want to talk . . . teaches business English to freshmen on the side . . . is sponsor and guid- ing light of Senior Staff, Pan-Hellenic, Lantern, T. U. Y . . . brought glory to the University when she made the principal address at the Pan-Hellen- ic convention this spring . . . has an unguenchable sense of humor . . . which is fortunate . . . always looks very chic. H. D, Chase . . . counselor to men . . . sponsors Inter- fraternity council and T. U. Y . . . teaches Zool- ogy to curious students . . . who want to see what makes them tick . . . fig- uratively speaking . . . is remembered for many years by grateful students . . . for his patience and long-suffering . . . speaks slowly . . . and really says something . . . has a dry humor . . . Daughter Kathleen is a senior and is following in her father's foot steps and studying zoology . . . Dean and Mrs. Chase much appreci- ated for their many hours spent chaperoning.

College of Arts ond Sciences Henry Kendall College was founded as a liberal arts college under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church in l894 at Muskogee . . . moved to Tulsa in l907 and opened in a temporary building downtown . . . in l908 the new buildings on the present campus were completed and the institution moved into permanent quarters . . . because of the peculiar advantages of this community the Board of Trustees decided in i920 that the scope of the College should be broadened and the University of Tulsa was created . . . the name Henry Kendall College was retained as the title of the College of Arts and Sciences .... despite popular misunderstanding . . . Art and Speech Arts Departments are under jurisdiction of this college . . . as is Tulsa lunior College . . . although artists are housed in Tyrrell Hall and Speech Arts students . . . known better as Experimental Theater or Workshop members . . . headquarter in Kendall Hall Auditorium and their own building behind Kendall Hall . . . Dr. Adah Robinson heads Art Department . . . and finds time to counsel with her students and former students . . . and speak before interested groups . . . college provides a wide variety of opportunity for general cultural development and for specialized training in preparation for grad- uate work . . . also offers work in several professional and pre-professional fields . . . the Henry Kendall College of Arts and Sciences offers curricula leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science . . . curricula sufficient for major work are offered in about twenty departments . . . a student may graduate with honor when he has maintained a high scholastic record in all his work . . . an average in grade points of 2.5 or higher. Dr. L. S. McLeod . . . dean of the Col- lege of Arts and Sciences . . . teaches general psychology to freshmen and psycho-analysis and pseudo-psychol- ogy to seniors . . . and family relations to everyone .... is well-informed con- cerning the history of Mexico after liv- ing there all last summer . . . shows colored movies of said summer . . . can sometimes be caught in his office at six in the morning as well as at midnight . . . fishes for relaxation . . . and for fish . . . and gets them too . . . is proud of his Scotch ancestory . . . takes personal care of his lovely gar- den.
