Mrs. Evelyn Sherwood, secretary to the Financial Aid Department at the Univer- sity has been employed since June of 1966, making this her 18th year on our campus. According to Mrs. Sherwood, her dedication and commitment stems from the enjoyment she attains from working with students. Mrs. Sherwood lives in Orange, Connecticut with her husband, Henry. She has three children and five grandchil- dren. The University of New Haven will surely miss Mrs. Sherwood! We all wish her a happy and healthy retirement! 224 Dedication % « % ' % % Mr. Santiago Malave Santiago Malave, better known as Sandy , began his retirement in December of 1983. Sandy has been employed by the University since September of 1965. For the past 18 years, Sandy has been servicing the student center and all University students, faculty and administration with his warm and friendly smile. Presently, Sandy is living with his wife, Mariana in North Haven. The Malave ' s have two children, one son, Santiago Jr. and a daughter, Carmel. We miss Sandy already and we wish him the best in his retirement! Dedication 225 TO THE GRADUATES Please accept my warmest congratulations upon the com- pletion of your education at the University of New Haven. It is my hope that you found your educational experience at the University rewarding and valuable and that these years will prove to be some of the most formative years of your life. I also hope that your education becomes the foundation upon which your careers and values are based. Your education should provide you with a critical cast of mind in the sense of a capacity to test and chal- lenge previous assumptions and new ideas, a sensitivity to weigh ethical and moral issues, and enable you to obtain rewarding and productive employment in a complex and technological society. We made our first deadline and our last deadline and all the others in between — ON TIME!!! What a great bunch of charioteers (corny, huh?)! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who helped myself and the staff put together and complete this yearbook. First, I must thank my representative from Delmar Co., Brian Hawthorne. This past year you have contributed so, so much to the Chariot — if it wasn ' t for your special touches and your magic , our yearbook wouldn ' t be so special. Thanks for the physical labor of putting together our pages and most of all for putting up with my crazy and weirdo moods. I feel as if you have been a part of our staff all year and you have become a dear, dear friend. Next on my list is our photography company, Delma Studios. A special thanks to John DeGarmo and Gerry Schneider for always being there when I needed them, for rushing our portraits and candids and for being so helpful. There are also those people who provided me with important info and for being there when I needed a shoulder to cry on. Thanks to: Nan- cy Carroll, Peggy, Mr. Macionus, Noel Tomas and Public Relations, Mrs. Levitsky, Lila Wolf-Wilkinson, Dr. Staugaard, Eric McDowell, Bill Parker, Becky Johnson and my dear friend, Claire. Well, I must commend my staff for doing a job well done. Thanks, Andrea, Michele, Janet, Jim, Devika, Barbara, Max, Liz, and Pete. Thanks guys gals! Then there ' s my editors. Without them I could have not functioned and they made the yearbook what it is. Linda — you added copy to our yearbook and indeed you did! You have been quite an inspiration to me with all of your enthusiasm and motivation. I would also like to extend my thanks to your husband, Mike. Thanks for putting up with us! And then there ' s my Business Ad Editor, Sue. Sue, you made the 1984 Chariot professional. With your loyalty and dedication you made our yearbook both memorable and quite special. Thanks Sue — QUACK, QUACK! Oh yes, Val — we ' ve grown together this year and we made it work! I ' ll always remember our last minute brainstormers and the way we used to fight like cats and dogs! May you have as much success and satisfaction as I have had this past year as Editor. I wish you the best and I ' ll be there always, I ' m just a RUFF away. And of course, my special, special thanks to my advisor, Kelly Ryan Maltz. You were a great teacher and a best friend. Without you at my side I would have lacked the confidence needed and the skills and patience in putting this yearbook together. Thanks Kel. Last but certainly not the least is one very special and wonderful man who has been behind me always — giving me advice, encouraging me to keep working at it and understanding when I came home late at night. And most of all Mickey, thanks for being you MEW, MEW! In closing, I wish my friends of the Class of 1984 much success and happiness. And to all other students, faculty, administration, and friends at UNH — HERE ' S TO 1985!!! Patricia A. Calabrese 1984 RS. One last thanks, THANKS MOM FOR BEING YOU!
