Back: Cabb, Bumann, Flvn.n, alkek. jACguiN Middle: McCawley, Sheeb. Rosen, Hausmann, McDonnell Front: Smith, Jobdan, George, Breuneb, Helmstetteb, Stemme FRESHMAN COMMISSION Organized to help freshman girls become better orientated toward University life, the Freshman Conmiission this year experimented with various means toward that end. This year the organization followed the house plan of orienta- tion. Each week a group of freshman girls were invited to one of Missouri ' s sorority houses where sophomores discussed their prob- lems with them, explained campus traditions and customs, and sought to make less confusing to the freshmen their new life. Next year, however, the Freshman Commission plans to break the entering class into small groups which will be lectured by such persons as Miss Mills who understand and are interested in the girls ' problems. It is thought that this method of operation will prove more effective. Members of the Commission are, of course, sophomore girls. Officers who will serve next year are: Pearl Sterneck, president; Nancy Chapman, vice-president; June Ridgeway, secretary; and Betty Lou Young, treasurer. Page 27

A. Continuing its progressive governing policy, the Women ' s Self-Government Associa- tion this year completed another program of projects designed to benefit women students, all of whom are considered members of W. S. G. A. The council, an energetic group of twenty- two women, is chosen on the merit system. Although the W. S. G. A. is composed of all Obtrude Schnaedelbach President women students, it is the council which sponsors an impressive array of commendable projects. It regulates, for one thing, all house rules for women students and determines clos- ing hours for women ' s houses. To enforce these rules, the council last year established a judiciary board of five members. Other projects carried on were registration day assistance for new students; the Co-Ed Carnival during freshman week; assistance with freshman orientation; re-establishing the Stray Greek society for members of sororities not represented on this campus; conducting regular meetings of the house presidents ' council for women not in organized houses; sponsoring the Third Annual Skirt Swing, the original University girls ' bid dance of the year, featuring the crowning of the Knight Owl; acquainting freshman women who did not participate in any campus activities with the possibihties of those activities; and spon- soring of the Christmas Doll show and the Christmas Carol session. Miss Thelma Mills, director of student aff airs for women, is the group ' s advisor. Page 26
