ONE OF THE BETTER GUYS This is Dean Albert K. Meckel ' s last year as Dean of Men. He will take a year ' s leave of absence and then return to the University as Professor of Citizenship — and students who are on the campus next year, a campus without the Dean, will feel a great loss. No one has been more interested, more active in promoting the best interests of the Uni- versity through serving the individual student than Dean Meckel. Me is one of the few for whom Me is a Jolly Good Fellow can be sung honestly. The spontaneous testimonial banquet held in his honor is typical of the high regard which every student holds for him. Dean Meckel has given freely of his time, far above the requirements of his office. Mis sponsorship of such organizations as Q. E. B. M., Blue Key, and Phi Eta Sigma is an example. It is hard to say goodbye to one whom we like so much. Page 23

ONE OF THE BETTER GALS Like the Dean of Men, the Director of Student Affairs for Women is in one of the toughest spots imaginable. Miss Thehiia Mills must be responsible for the conduct of some 2500 girls, a majority of whom are not greatly interested in having anyone responsible for them. But under Miss Mills ' capable administration women ' s organizations have flourished, and new ideas have been well received. This is Miss Mills ' second year in her present position. Before coming to Missouri she served as Dean of Women at Whitman College for eight years. Before that time Miss Mills was director of women ' s dormitories at the University of Wyoming. She holds an A. M. from Columbia University, and she has been an English instructor in China. Page 22
