KUHN Chancellor, Baltimore City Campus WILSON H. ELKINS President, University of Maryland 92 In Memoriam RUSSELL GIGLIOTTI The student body, both present and future, has suffered a lamentable loss in the untimely death of Russell Gigliotti, Associate Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Director of Basic Dental Science. His mild friendly manner and easy-going temperament won him the respect of every student, faculty mem- ber, and employee. His skill as a dental educator, high moral integrity and endless endeavors to aid the student have established him an outstanding example to all who knew him. We take this opportunity to pay tribute to Dr. Gigliotti, in due recognition of his lifetime dedication of advancing the art of dentistry and his invaluable service to the dental students. But above all we must gratefully acknowledge him for his deep wisdom and understanding that has helped to shape and influ- ence our lives. We will miss him. 931 ERROL L. REESE Dean Z L 94 ERNEST F. KAVALI Dental Clinic Administrator On behalf of the Alumni Association of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, Dental School, University of Maryland, it gives me a great deal of pleasure to congratu- late the Senior Class on reaching the final moment you have so long awaited. You have had many trying moments before graduation and there will be many peaceful ones after receiving your degree. However, you will be faced with a tremendous number of questions and problems; remember that no professional person ever completes their studies or their quest for knowledge. After graduation, you have the privilege of belonging to and becoming an integral part of a great professional organization. As you leave school, you will take your seri- ous thoughts with you. If any of these are critical, then let us express them as an active Alumni group. Thus, you will show an interest in the education of the future gradu- ates of your Alma Mater. Remember that Dentistry is not a one way organization and that for every effort expended, there is a proportionate return. Conrad L. Inman, Jr., D.D.S. President, Alumni Association CHARLES T. The Society is named after Dr. Ferdinand J. S. Gorgas, a pioneer in dental education and a great contributor to dental literature, and it was with the idea of perpetuating his name that the Society adopted it. The Society makes for its objective the furtherance of dental knowledge by discussion and lectures. Gorgas is comprised of junior and senior members whose scho- lastic endeavors have placed them in at least the top third of their class. Four dinner meetings are held annu- ally with guest lecturers selected to speak on diverse topics of interest to students and practitioners of the dental profession. At present, the faculty advisor, Dr. Jose Diaz provides aid and guidance in the selection of candidates, and the attainment of the Society ' s goals. Aca- demics were emphasized throughout the year as seen in monthly seminars with the alumni. Topics ranged from " Surgical Approach to Endodontic Failures " to " Insurance and the Dentist. " Fraternally, the alumni sponsored a Big Brother Pro- gram, highlighted by a Cinema Races night for Big Brothers and undergrads. Also, Baltimore Alumni and Zeta Mu enjoyed several Monday night scientific dinners which featured guest speakers. The close contact of members helped to build a large pledge class in Rush Week ' 76. The annual Rush Breakfast attracted many students and established a pledge class of forty-five. Socially, the fraternity sponsored a September " Welcome Back Crab Feast " at the Milford Mill Indoor Swim Club. This was followed with the annual fall Wine and Cheese Party featuring wine, deli, a band, and movies. In expanding the social program, enthusiastic fraters braved a cold and snowy January night to ski and grog at Pennsylvania ' s Ski Liberty. Top- ping the social season, Zeta Mu attended the annual Spring Away Weekend and Senior Banquet in Ocean City. Fraters enjoyed the ocean view and vacation atmosphere of the Sheraton-Fountainebleau Inn and Spa, culminated by a poolside cocktail party and Senior Awards. In support of the in ternational fraternity, Zeta Mu and Baltimore Alumni delegates attended the 69th International Con- vention in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada over the winter vacation. The week-long assembly of fraters from eight countries participated in social events and scientific and business meetings. Zeta Mus were proud of the election of frater Lisa Germain to the office of International Undergraduate Representative to the Executive Council. As the first woman International officer ever, this tribute highlighted an outstanding year for all Alpha Omegans. SENIOR MEMBERS Top:B. Lesco, J. Plesset, A. Exler, V. Gibberman, R. Singer, B. Monthly dinner meetings and fre- quent social get-togethers helped the brothers and sisters of Psi-0 to take a break from the academic world and relax. Summer activities included a crab feast and swim party, softball games with Psi-O alumni, and even a chartered boat fishing outing. An informal open party and joint undergraduate alumni breakfast comprised Rush Week activities. Other annual activities included Colt Night, Preakness Day, Christmas Dinner Theater, Halloween and Valen- tine ' s Parties, and Psi-O ' s biggest event — the Senior Banquet and Dance. More activities with the Oriole alumni chapter are being planned. Fraternalism and the high standards of the dental profession are qualities one can find in Psi Omega. President Ray Mack and Dr. Glenn D. Steele, faculty advisor, have worked diligently with the cooperation of the membership, this year to achieve these worth- while objectives. OFFICERS PRESIDENT K. With the sale of the frater- nity house our social program has been expanded to include activities not requiring a permanent meeting place. Dinner meetings, Rush Night at the Playboy Club, the Christmas party with Psi-O and an excellent Rush with the addition of many new members were the highlights of the year. The social year is the biggest part of any social professional fraternity and ZIP ' s social calendar was certainly excellent. Wayne Barnes Louis Culiner Professional Economic Services Suite 322, 1055 Taylor Ave. Towson, Md. 21204 (301)821 5035 A national organization with regional representatives in your area. Why look to us? Because we ' re a natural " clearing house " for the information you need. Each month nearly 30,000 existing practices in the United States purchase supplies or equipment from us, so we have an inside track on who needs an associate, who ' s interested in selling his practice, where a good potential location has developed, and an array of other things that are probably on your mind right now. It ' s first-hand information. We have 240 representatives calling daily in dental offices across the country, from Albany west to the Pacific Ocean. Most of our information comes first hand from them, so what ' s available to you is current, up-to- date, and accurate. We not only know who is looking for an associate, but what kind of practice it is, what the area has to offer you in the near future, and what the prospects are for a practice of your own sometime in the future. Choose your associateship for its present and future value. Few new dentists expect to work as an " employee " for very long. Most seek an associateship as a temporary measure to allow them to get the feel of private dental practice before striking out on their own. Some associateships will work counter to that objective, but we ' ll help you select the opportunity that complements your long term goals. For example, in certain states some associateship agreements could prevent you from setting up your own practice within a certain geographic radius of your " employer ' s " office. We ' ll help you decide whether that ' s an important concern or if, instead, it will provide you with a good chance for part time work during the building stages of your own new practice. We keep track of associateships, available practices, and good practice locations in nearly every state. Need some information? Most associates open their practices sooner than they ' d planned. The step ' s of the new dentist as he moved from dental school or the armed forces, through an associateship, and finally into private practice were recently traced in research for a Patterson Informational program. The conclusion reached was that the transition from an associateship into solo or partnership practice usually comes more quickly than the new professional had originally planned. It appears that becoming familiar and comfortable with the demands of running a practice is often a surprisingly swift process. It soon becomes apparent to many new dentists that they are, Indeed, capable of generating enough dentistry to support the expenses of an office. The logical next step is to begin looking for a location and financing for a practice of his own — months earlier than he ' d originally thought possible. We ' ll help you pick a good location if you ' re starting right out on your own. For the same reasons we ' re able to help you with associateship information, we can steer you to good available office locations if you ' re going directly into private practice. And keep In mind why we must do the best possible job for you from the very start — it ' s because the amount you ' ll spend in supplies and equipment at the outset is a very small portion of what your total outlay will be over the life of your practice. If we didn ' t do right by you from the start we ' d jeopardize the chance to earn a far greater amount in the form of the business you ' ll do over the next 30 or 40 years. For more specific information, write today. From the single office noted below we ' ll direct your inquiry to the Patterson people directly involved with the area in which you ' re interested. Please include the state(s) you ' d like to know more about, whether you ' re looking for an associateship or an office of your own, and approximately when you ' ll be available to assume your new role.
