President Elliott and the Board of Trustees work hand in hand in formulating the policies of our Uni- versity. President Elliott is confronted with the prob- lems and responsibilities of hiring highly qualified men and women for the faculty and the administration, of strengthening teaching facilities, and of developing an attractive, expanding physical plant. His is a taxing job. but he attacks it with enthusiasm and energy. A university is a unique institution. It is both a reality and a vision; it is a living tradition and. at the same time, a dream. In performing the many services now appropriate to the University, in fulfilling the great tradition that the first century produced, and in preparing for the vision already before us. it must be recognized that no short-cut to quality has been found. It must be planned for. fought for, and paid for.
