DEDICATION . . . IRVING A. PIERCE , . . after twenty years At a central desk in the treasury office, a kindly-look- ing man, who will retire at the end of this year, works over orderly columns of figures. Unfamiliar to the ma- jority of students, he has carefully aided many fraternities and other campus organizations to transfigure their red columns of debts into black columns of security. With this thought in mind, we respectfully dedicate the 1958 PRISM to a man who has earnestly dedicated his services to assisting students; to a recipient of the Black Bear Award last Homecoming for his loyalty to the University of Maine; to an honorary member of many former classes and a willing participator in sports and other activities; and, especially important to Juniors of many classes, the long time advisor of the PRISM, Irving A. Pierce. Coming to the University as an accountant in 1921, Mr. Pierce began assisting in the yearly issuing of the PRIS M in 1926. In 1939, he became head advisor to the yearbook staff and for twenty years he has competently helped those who have compiled material for the PRISM. Thus we feel that this last issue of the PRISM under his guidance, so dedicated to one who has concerned himself with our interests, can in small measure repay our gratitude and that of others before us.
