DEDICATION lo ;i in.in whose wisdom and experience have guided the men and women oi the University of Maine for live years; whose sympathetic understanding of the problems, whims, and pranks of college students has endeared him to our hearts; whose sense of fair play has given many a despairing stumbler a chance to make good, but whose sense of justice would not allow favoring one at the expense of many; whose tact has promoted and main- tained a unique spirit of cooperation and good will on our campus; whose initiative, courage, and imagination have kept our alma mater on the road of progress a man who from the time of his graduation from the I niversity ol Maine in D 27 and his subse- quent admission to the faculty has proved that he is deserving of the title a real Maine man” with all its implications. It is with sincere gratitude and appreciation for his devotion to the University of Maine and the welfare ol its students that the class of 1 57 dedicates this yearbook to Dean of Men John li. In Memoriam . . . To the memory of James Gordon ScKvood. who for thirteen years served the University and the art of music. Jim' Selwood was horn on May 4. 1002, in Canajorharic. New York, and attended Fort Plains High School and Cast High School in Rochester, as well as the Utica School of Commerce. He received Ins B.S. degree from the University of Maine in IV54. Mr. Selwood was affiliated with music in many phases from I‘ 26 to his death. At the University lie conducted the Glee Club. Madrigal Singers and the Varsity Singers in addition to his teaching classes in music. James Selwood was a dedicated and devoted teacher, a gootl musician, anti a charming person. great favorite with students, he solicited from them not only a high regard for music but a line personal loyally as well.
