COLONEL FRANCIS R. FULLER KU. .. The Department of Military Science and Tactics offers young men at the University of Maine a four-year course leading to a com- mission in the Reserve. In past times of trouble, this training program has supplied a substantial pool of fine leadership for the Army of the United States. Today the need for Reserve Officers is as great as ever, if not greater than formerly. Our R.O.T.C. stands ready to help satisfy that need. One aspect of the Advanced Military Course is the six week summer camp that all candidates for a commission must attend. In the photograph below there is a group of Maine men taking infantry training at Fort Meade, Maryland, in july, 1949. The pictures on the opposite page show cadets in a few of their typical summer camp activities. All these photographs were taken by the United States Army Signal Corps.
