The purposes of the Council are to promote the general wel- fare of University women through self-gov- ernment and to encourage the highest pos- sible standards of honor and integrity in all matters of personal conduct. Meetings are held every two weeks in the Committee Room of Carnegie Hall. Two of the permanent functions of the Council are the planning of assemblies for women stu- dents and the presentation of the W.S.G.A.- Faculty Tea, which is given each fall. The Men's Senate is composed of fifty male students annually elected by the various dor- mitories and fraternities. This year there is one representative for every sixty-six men en- rolled at the University. A coordinating body for all men's student organizations and the University administra- tion, the Senate strives to promote general cooperation and unified college spirit, to foster beneficial student activities and Uni- versity ideals, and to work for the betterment of educational. standards. During the past year, the Men's Senate has done many services which added to the welfare of the University. The General Student Senate's membership ludes four olhcers, the presidents of the vv.S.G.A., Panhellenic Council, Off-Campus YVomen's Organization, Men's Student Sen- ate, Interfraternity Council, Off-Campus Men's Organization and eleven students elected from various areas of the campus. The Senate represents the student body as a whole, attempts to coordinate student activities, and serves as a link between students and the ad- ministration. Meeting in special session on November 28, 1949, the General Student Senate voted to adopt a petition form for nominating all class oflicer candidates. Hitherto, the candi- dates were chosen in open primary elections. The new system was used in the january elections, which were held under the auspices of an Election Committee appointed by the General Senate. Geneml Senate Fi-:mt row: lYhite. Dean lVilson, Murray.
